According to records, Mr. Jiang's childhood name was Xiang, and his courtesy name was Ruiping. He resided at Shuanghe Tou, Qinghua Street, North Township of Wuyuan. In the Gengzi year of the Daoguang era (1840), he was already over seventy years old. He was skilled in treating falls and bruises. This book should be treasured.
Sanhe Jisheng Pill: Specifically treats diseases caused by abnormal qi of the four seasons, such as headache, fever, abdominal pain and distension, cholera with muscle spasms, vomiting and diarrhea, cold limbs, intestinal colic (Jiao Chang Sha), cold damage, heatstroke, food stagnation, malaria, dysentery, and other symptoms. Take one qian per dose; double the dose for severe cases. If the tongue coating is white, take it with Huoxiang Tang (Agastache Decoction); if yellow, with Heye Tang (Lotus Leaf Decoction); for severe cold syndromes, take it with Jiang Tang (Ginger Decoction). For vomiting, diarrhea, and spasms, take four pills, added with fresh ginger and Zao Xin Tu (Furnace Hearth Earth) decocted in water. Avoid eating rice grains. This formula has been prepared and distributed annually, saving many lives with minimal cost. It is hoped that all benevolent people will either prepare the medicine or print the prescription for widespread distribution, achieving great merit with little expense. The prescription is listed below:
Chuan Houpo (Magnolia Bark) (6 liang 5 qian), Jiang Zhi Chao Wuyao (Aucklandia Stir-fried with Ginger Juice) (2 liang), Zhiqiao (Bitter Orange) (3 liang 5 fen), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root) (4 liang), Guang Huoxiang (Patchouli) (7 liang), Mugua (Chaenomeles Fruit) (1 liang 3 qian), Zi Doukou (Black Cardamom) (2 liang), Mao Zhu (Atractylodes Lancea) (3 liang), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) (4 liang 5 qian), Su Ye (Perilla Leaf) (7 liang), Xiangru (Costus Root) (2 liang), Caoguo (Tsaoko Cardamom) (2 liang), Chi Ling (Red Poria) (6 liang), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome) (3 liang), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (2 liang 5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (3 liang), Fuling (Poria) (2 liang), Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome) (3 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (1 liang 5 qian), Tanxiang (Sandalwood) (1 liang), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) (6 liang 5 fen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) (3 liang), Muxiang (Vladimiria Root) (3 liang 6 qian), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) (8 qian), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) (5 liang), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) (5 liang), Sharen (Amomum Fruit) (3 liang). The above materials must be selected clean and pure, ground together into fine powder. Use Bohe (Mint), Cha Ye (Tea Leaves), Dafupi (Areca Peel) decocted in juice, mixed with one bowl of Rice Soup to form pills. Coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar). Each pill weighs 7 fen. Dry and store in a small-mouthed porcelain bottle; preventing air leakage is crucial.
Yanfang for Trauma and Injury Plaster: Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Bohe (Mint), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Chishao (Red Peony Root), Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Chuan Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root), Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit). Each of the above ingredients: 1 liang. Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Taoren (Peach Seed), Yiren (Coix Seed), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Jiapi (Add Skin - likely a variant name), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark), Chuan Bai (Phellodendron Bark), Yuanhu (Corydalis Rhizome), Baishao (White Peony Root), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Niuxi (Achyranthes Root), Honghua (Carthamus Flower), Xian Pi (Fresh Skin - unclear specific herb, kept as literal), Mutong (Akebia Stem), Sumu (Sappan Wood), Mugua (Chaenomeles Fruit), Gancao (Licorice Root), Houpo (Magnolia Bark), Sugeng (Perilla Stem), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), Zhiqiao (Bitter Orange), Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root), Chuanduan (Dipsacus Root), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Gansong (Nardostachys Root), Sanleng (Sparganium Tuber), Shannai (Kaempferia Galanga Rhizome), Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root), Liu Jinu (Artemisia Annua Herb), Gusui Bu (Drynaria Rhizome, de-haired). Each of the above ingredients: 6 qian. Additionally, add 72 liang of Qianfen (Lead Powder), stir-fried until yellow.
Use 10 jin of high-quality Sesame Oil. Soak the above herbs for two to three days, then boil in a pot. Remove dregs. Add Lead Powder, stir evenly with Mulberry Branch, fan until smoke ceases, let cool. Immerse in water; the older, the better.
Another Powder Formula: Add when spreading the plaster. For every 1 jin of oil, add: 1 liang of powder mixture, Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (1 liang), Zhi Rushan (Prepared Frankincense) (2 liang), Zhi Moyao (Prepared Myrrh) (2 liang), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood) (1 liang), Longgu (Fossilized Bone) (1 liang), Dingxiang (Clove) (1 liang). Grind all together into extremely fine powder, store in a porcelain bottle for use. When encountering Feng Qi (Madness/Wind Qi, possibly referring to rabies or neuralgia), apply this plaster; its efficacy is superior to the Wan Ying Gao (Universal Plaster) sold in markets.
Mizhi Zhusha Gao (Secretly Made Cinnabar Plaster): Specifically treats Ding Chuang (Carbuncle), Yong Ju (Abscess), Duikou Fabei (Opposite Back Carbuncle on Neck), and all unknown malignant toxins on the neck and head. Songxiang (Rosin) (1 jin), Chongshui Zhu Shexiang (Musk boiled in Scallion Water) (5 fen). If Musk is too expensive, substitute with Bajiang San (Eight Generals Powder), Bingpian (Borneol) (5 fen), Zhi Rushan (Prepared Frankincense) (5 qian), Zhi Moyao (Prepared Myrrh) (5 qian), Zhangnao (Camphor) (3 liang 5 qian), Yinzhu (Silver Cinnabar) (1 liang), Piao Zhusha (Washed Cinnabar) (2 qian), Yan Piao Bamazi Rou (Ground Washed Castor Bean Meat) (5 liang), Xingren (Apricot Seed) (150 grains, peeled and de-husked), Ming Xionghuang (Real Realgar) (2 qian), Quanxie (Whole Scorpion) (2 qian 5 fen, washed in Scallion Water). Grind each into fine powder, beat thousands of times to form the plaster. Store in a porcelain jar. When using, soften by heating in water, spread onto ordinary oil-paper plasters, and apply. Adjust the amount according to the size of the lesion.
Bajiang San Ancient Formula: Treats severe toxic sores and abscesses, drawing out pus, removing necrotic tissue, and promoting flesh regeneration. Chuan Wu (Likely Chuan Wulingzhi or similar, kept as literal) (1 liang 6 qian), Bei Yan Chuan Xionghuang (Roasted Ground Sichuan Realgar) (3 qian), Shui Fei Bingpian (Water-triturated Borneol) (5 fen), Wugong (Centipede) (7 strips, remove claws/legs, roasted dry 1 qian 2 fen), Quanxie (Whole Scorpion) (10 pieces, washed clean, remove tail, roasted and powdered 7 fen), Shexiang (Musk) (5 fen), Shan Jia (Pangolin Scale) (10 slices, roasted dry 2 qian), Chantui (Cicada Slough) (20 pieces, remove head/legs, roasted and powdered 7 fen). Note: The appended empirical formulas are medicines distributed by our shop, circulated for over twenty years, and are quite effective. They are attached at the end, hoping that benevolent people will widely disseminate them. Sheng, residing at Tonghe Dian in Yuhang, recorded in the first month of autumn in the Jiazi year of the Republic of China (1924).
