Jingfeng (Pediatric Convulsion) refers to a syndrome characterized by deficiency-induced fright, palpitations, shortness of breath with timidity, scattered spirit, flowing phlegm-saliva, and diarrhea with greenish stool. If the pathogen enters the Heart, it presents with a red face and night crying; treat with Zhizi Qinggan San (Gardenia Liver-Clearing Powder) added with Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma). If it enters the Liver, it presents with a blue-green face and eye deviation or upward staring; treat with Chaihu Qinggan San (Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Powder). If it enters the Spleen, it presents with a sallow yellow face, vomiting, spontaneous sweating due to deficiency, and lethargy; treat with Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) added with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus). If it enters the Lung, it presents with a pale face and rapid breathing; treat with Yigong San (Extraordinary Skill Powder) added with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). If it enters the Kidney, it presents with a black face, gnawing at the nipple, and teeth grinding; treat with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill).
If the condition arises from the wet nurse's anger causing Liver Fire, or from accumulated heat due to rich and greasy diet affecting the infant, or if the infant's vomiting and diarrhea damage the Spleen, preventing the clear Yang from ascending, allowing Wind-Wood pathogen to sink into the Taiyin Meridian and transform, all these can cause such symptoms. Treatment should follow the specific etiology. Otherwise, it will inevitably develop into Manspi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind), so preventive caution is essential.
Clinical Cases:
A fifteen-year-old boy, after sexual intercourse and overwork, combined with failure in examinations, suffered from epilepsy for three years. It would flare up upon exertion. He was treated with Shiquan Dabu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction) and Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction), along with Zihewche (Human Placenta) raw-ground into paste, mixed with steamed glutinous rice powder, and formed into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Each dose was one hundred pills, taken three to five times daily, resulting in recovery. Later, he suffered from seminal emission, night sweats, and fever; he recovered using the previous medicines and Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). This treatment is effective regardless of gender or age.
Another child, after falling from a table at one year old, revived after a long time. He developed convulsions and vomited phlegm foam. After taking Jinghua Huatan medicines (medicines for calming fright and resolving phlegm), the condition recurred upon fright. After marriage, the attacks became frequent and difficult to cure. His physical form and Qi were both deficient, with a sallow yellow complexion. He recovered after taking Shiquan Dabu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction) and Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction).
