In infants, overlapping fingers result from deficiency in the corresponding meridians and channels, causing wind-dampness to flow and accumulate. It is appropriate to use Qufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction) for prevention and treatment; as the wind pathogen dissipates gradually, recovery can be expected.
Modified Qufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction):
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Baishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried with wine), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Wuyao (Linderae Radix, skin and heart removed, washed with wine), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each 5 fen].
If the hallux overlaps with the second toe, add Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, stir-fried with ginger), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Caolongdan (Gentianae Scabrae Radix, stir-fried with wine), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) [each 5 fen], Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) [each 3 fen], Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 2.5 fen, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed) 1.5 fen.
If the middle toe overlaps with the second toe, add Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, stir-fried with ginger), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, stir-fried with ginger) [each 5 fen], Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) [each 3 fen], Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried with wine) 2.5 fen, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed) 1.5 fen.
If the middle toe overlaps with the fourth toe, add Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, stir-fried separately) [each 5 fen], Caolongdan (Gentianae Scabrae Radix), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) [each 3 fen], Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 2.5 fen, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed) 1.5 fen.
If the fourth toe overlaps with the fifth toe, add Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) [each 5 fen], Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) [each 3 fen], Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) 2.5 fen, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed) 1.5 fen. Fuzi possesses vigorous properties and has the momentum of breaking through gates and defeating generals, capable of dispersing wind-cold on the exterior. Moreover, it enters every meridian, reaching down to the finger joints. In treating wind disorders, a slight addition of two or three fen is sufficient to leverage its power to unblock the finger joints.
If the five toes of the foot lack qi and drag on the ground, this is due to qi deficiency complicated by dampness; add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma).
If the heel lacks qi and drags on the ground, this is due to qi deficiency complicated by phlegm; add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and herbs belonging to Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction).
For Po Shang Feng (Traumatic Tetanus), burn Yujiao (Colla Corii Asini, prepared) until it retains its nature (charred but not ashed), grind into powder, and take with warm wine. Jiao Gong Fan Zhang (Opisthotonos) is also treated with this method.
Another prescription: Boil Zitan Xiang (Pterocarpus Santalinus Lignum) or Baitan Xiang (Santalum Album Lignum) together with Huangla (Cera Flava) and take orally; it is extremely effective.
Songrui Dan (Pine Stamen Pill):
Songhua (Pinus Pollen), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, stir-fried with bran), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) [each 1 liang], Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, stir-baked with wine), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) [each 5 fen].
Make honey pills the size of millet seeds, and swallow with water.
If the spinal column is complicated by dampness, the large tendons shorten; if complicated by heat, the small tendons become flaccid and relaxed. It is appropriate to add Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, dry-stir-fried), Han Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) [each 5 qian], Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 3 qian, Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried with wine) 1.5 qian.
