(This syndrome arises from damage to the Spleen following vomiting and diarrhea after chronic convulsions. The disease has progressed to an extreme stage, ultimately returning to deficiency, specifically affecting the Spleen; hence it is called "Spleen Wind" (Pi Feng). If one attempts to expel wind, there is no pathogenic wind to expel; if one attempts to treat fright, there is no pathogenic fright to treat. It is merely stagnation of phlegm and saliva in the Spleen, with alternating deficiency-heat. The symptom of closed eyes indicates that the Spleen is increasingly exhausted, leading to confusion of the Spirit associated with Qi.)
Bu Pi Yi Zhen Tang (Tonify Spleen and Restore True Qi Decoction) (This is a supreme remedy for greatly tonifying Spleen and Stomach deficiency and damage.)
Dingxiang (Clove), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Hezi Pi (Chebulae Pericarpium), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (stir-fried with ginger juice), Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus) (roasted wrapped in flour), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen) (processed), Baifuling (Poria), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (processed, dry-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (honey-fried, each 2 fen), Quanxie (Scorpio) (one piece), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (two pieces), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) (one piece).
After taking the medicine, press the area below the heart to assist the medicinal power. For any signs of pediatric Spleen Wind (see the section "Five Symptoms of Spleen Wind" above), this formula should be taken prophylactically.
(This syndrome also belongs to the category of convulsive disorders. However, during an attack of Tiandiao (Heavenly Suspension), the head and eyes look upward, which is not seen in ordinary convulsions. The child experiences constant tremors, rolling back the eyes and staring fixedly, appearing as if possessed by spirits, with the head and eyes looking upward, and spasms of the hands and feet resembling a fish hooked on a line; thus it is also called Tiandiao. In severe cases, the fingernails turn cyan. Suhe Wan (Styrax Pill) is suitable. If caused by the wet nurse overeating heat-toxic substances, generating heat in the Heart and Lungs, compounded by external contraction of Wind Pathogen, Gouteng San (Uncaria Decoction) is the primary treatment. If Heat is predominant, Baoming Dan (Life-Preserving Pill) is used; if Phlegm is abundant, Dansing Baolong Wan (Calculus Bovis and Dragon Pill) is used.)
Gouteng San (Uncaria Decoction) (Named Uncaria Decoction, yet it does not contain Gouteng [Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis], suggesting a possible omission.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Xijiao (Rhino Ceratops Horn) (each 5 fen), Quanxie (Scorpio), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) (each 2 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 fen).
Another prescription: Includes one ingredient, Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis).
(Children have weak Shen [Spirit] and Qi. Suddenly encountering unusual objects or being touched by unfamiliar people, or visiting temples and Buddhist shrines, can cause their Shen to clash. Symptoms include spitting out green, yellow, or white foam, or vomiting undigested food residues, changes in facial color through five hues, abdominal pain with turning and tossing, tremors similar to convulsions, but without upward deviation of the eyes. Immediately administer Suhe Wan [Styrax Pill] mixed with Ginger Decoction, and give frequently. Subsequently administer Xionghuang San (Realgar Powder) and apply Huangtu San (Yellow Earth Powder externally).)
Xionghuang San (Realgar Powder)
Xionghuang (Realgar) (1 qian), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Shexiang (Moschus) (1 zi).
For each dose (1 zi), mix with blood from a pierced rooster's comb and take orally. Cover the infant with the mother's clothing immediately thereafter, and recovery will follow.
Huangtu San (Yellow Earth Powder)
Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth) and Qiuyin Fen (Earthworm Excrement) in equal parts, finely ground and mixed with water. Apply to the head and the Five Centers (both palms, both soles, and the epigastrium); this is most effective.
Another prescription: Xiongdan (Ursi Bile), Xionghuang (Realgar), Wuyao (Linderae Radix). Treats Zhuwu Guiqi (Intruding Evil Qi). The three ingredients may be taken together, or singly.
If affected by the smell of horse sweat or startled by the neighing of a horse (Ke Wu), burn horse tail hair to produce smoke and fumigate the infant's face until cured.
Another prescription: For Ke Wu (Guest Clashing), burn old sweat-stained garments to ash. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with boiling water. Use a female garment for a male patient, and a male garment for a female patient.
