(Infants develop swellings all over the body resembling millet grains, commonly referred to as Pi Feng [Skin Wind] type; if untreated, the toxic swelling may penetrate inward leading to abdominal distension.)
Da Lianqiao Yin (Cinnamon Twig and Forsythia Decoction - *Note: Standard name is Da Lianqiao Yin, treating various toxic swellings*)
Gancao (Licorice Root, 4 fen) Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) Ruan Qin (Scutellaria Root, wine-fried) Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike, each 3 fen) Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit) Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed) Qumai (Dianthus Herb) Huashi (Talcum) E Shi (Artemisia Seeds) Chi Shaoyao (Red Peony Root, wine-fried) Shan Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit, wine-fried) Mutong (Akebia Stem, nodes removed) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, each 2 fen) Chantui (Cicada Slough, 1.5 fen) Zhuye (Bamboo Leaf, 3 slices) Dengxin (Juncus Medulla, 10 stems)
This formula is an excellent method for clearing heat and purging fire, working by allowing the pathogenic factors to emerge through the mechanism of "Heaven generates Water" (Kidney Water).
If itching is severe, add Bai Jili (Tribulus Fruit, 3 fen).
If pain is severe, add Hanshui Shi (Calcitum, 2.5 fen).
Another prescription: Add Moyao (Myrrh) and Ruxiang (Olibanum), each 2 fen.
If the abdomen is full and distended, add Luobo Zi (Radish Seed, 5 fen), Houpo (Magnolia Bark, ginger-fried, 3 fen).
If the toxic swelling penetrates inward, suddenly causing edematous distension, it is appropriate to take Xiaozhang San (Distension-Reducing Powder).
For Ding Zhong Si Du (Carbuncle Toxicity), drink juice made from Ju Ye (Chrysanthemum Leaf) (use roots if leaves are unavailable). Also, crush Chrysanthemum Leaves and apply the paste to the swollen area.
Another prescription: When a Ding Zhong (Carbuncle) first appears, slice fresh Ginger and pierce holes in it, then apply it to the swollen area. Mix Xiong Huang (Realgar powder) with fine Moxa wool, roll it into a cone, place it in the hole of the ginger slice, and moxibustion should be applied for seven groups of seven burns (49 burns). Subsequently, apply date flesh to the site, known as Jiang Jiu (Ginger Moxibustion). The toxic swelling will naturally dissipate and heal easily. (If pus has already formed, cut off the tip of the swelling with scissors, and still perform Ginger Moxibustion.)
Another prescription: Crush raw Yinxing (Ginkgo Seed) and apply to the swollen area.
Another prescription: Take half a large rat's eye, chew it up, and apply to the swollen area, waiting for recovery.
For Hongsi Ding (Red Thread Carbuncle), prick the red thread randomly with a needle to release toxic blood; thereafter, follow the treatment methods above. (Skipping Ginger Moxibustion is acceptable, but if acupuncture is not performed, Ginger Moxibustion alone is also effective.)
Another prescription: Roast Ren Tou Gou (Human Head Dirt/Scalp Scurf) over fire until warm, then apply to the swollen area while warm.
For various toxic swellings, mix Ku Fan (Alum) with saliva and apply. Ancient formulas state: A thousand medicines are not as effective as one spit.
For various malignant swellings, burn Yin She Pi (Snake Skin from the underside) until carbonized but retaining properties, mix with Zhu Zhi (Pig Fat) and apply. (If Pig Fat is unavailable, Xiang You (Sesame Oil) can substitute.) This is also effective for chronic ulcers.
For unbearable swelling, itching, and pain, remove the scales from Yin She Pi (Snake Skin), mix with saliva, and apply; the pain will stop immediately with miraculous effect.
For Tai Zhong (Fetal Swelling) and Tai Chuang (Fetal Sores), burn Ma Tai (Horse Placenta) until carbonized, grind into powder, mix with oil, and apply; this is excellent.
For unnamed toxic swellings at the hairline of the head and face, grind Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome) into powder, mix with vinegar, and apply.
For head sores that have ulcerated and formed scabs, wash with a decoction of Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit) and Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike) to remove the scabs. Grind Qin Jiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root) or Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Rhizome) into powder, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil), and apply frequently.
For Tou Gan (Head Malnutrition Syndrome), characterized by swellings on the head resembling chestnuts, walnuts, or chicken eggs, which may be hard or soft, this is Gan Du (Malnutrition Toxin). If no pus has formed, grind Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome) and Ku Fan (Alum) into powder, mix with Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice) and vinegar, and apply. If pus has formed, puncture with a needle to drain the pus, then thickly apply cooked sticky rice twice a day until healed; otherwise, worms may form, migrate to the zang-fu organs, cause erosion and emaciation, leading to death. (See detailed discussion in the Gan Ji [Malnutrition Accumulation] section.)
For facial swelling, lip swelling, back sores, and Fa Ju (Hair-root Abscess), apply Sang Chong Zhi (Mulberry Insect Juice).
Another prescription: Roast Bai Mu Zhi (Cypress Branch) over fire until oil exudes, then cauterize the affected area for immediate effect.
Another prescription: Use Gong Yi Fang (Male Cypress Branch) to make a hairpin, insert it into the hair; for those with long-term dye accumulation and dirt, roast it over fire and rub frequently, which is particularly effective.
For Tang Huo Chuang (Scalds and Burns), apply Sheng Li Zhi (Raw Pear Juice).
Another prescription: Burn Xi Gua Pi (Watermelon Rind) until carbonized, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil), and apply.
Another prescription: Drink menstrual blood frequently to prevent internal constriction of fire-heat. Also, burn Tu Shu (Field Mouse) until carbonized, mix with Xiang You (Sesame Oil), and apply; even near-death cases can be revived.
For toxic swellings with rotting pain, crush Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and apply; extremely effective.
For chronic ulcers that do not heal, equal parts of Wo Ju Jing (Lactuca Stem), Mutong (Akebia Stem), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange), and Huang Ju Sha (Abutilon Seed, also known as Wang Bu Liu Xing) are ground into powder, mixed with oil, and applied for immediate effect.
For any malignant sore, whether suppurating or not, apply Mu Jiu (Mother Wine/Medicinal Wine) to the lesion; extremely effective.
For back sores and floating protrusions on hands and feet about to become swollen, make Bing (Cake/Paste) from Ma Ren (Hemp Seed) and apply; this is excellent. For Bian Chuang (Weeping Sores) with much necrotic tissue, application is also effective.
If infants place feces on Yin Chuang (Genital Ulcers) or adults place feces on human defecation sites, evil qi may ascend and contaminate, forming Yin Chuang again. Boil grass used for wrapping rice until soft, wash the sore with the decoction, and drink it. (Tested and found effective.)
Another prescription: Steam Ji (Millet) until soft, amounting to several dou, sit upon it to fumigate with its warmth, changing frequently until cured. This is also effective for adult Yin Chuang.
