Perilla Leaf (Su Ye, 5 fen) Platycodon Root (Jie Geng, 1 qian) Licorice Root (Gan Cao, 1 qian)
Decoct in water and take hot. If phlegm is present, add White Mustard Seed (Bai Jie Zi, 8 fen).
People often casually refer to this condition as "Jing Feng" (Startle Wind). Who knows that while children may indeed experience "Jing" (Startle/Shock), they do not necessarily have "Feng" (Wind). Children are of a "Pure Yang" constitution and should not be subject to Wind pathogens. The manifestation resembling wind symptoms arises because excessive Yang energy in children generates internal heat; internal heat then generates internal wind. This is not external Wind invading from outside, but Wind generated from within. Treating internal Wind as if it were external Wind accelerates death. The prescription used is Qing Huo San Feng Tang (Clear Fire and Dispel Wind Decoction):
Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Bai Zhu, 3 fen) Poria (Fu Ling, 2 qian) Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi, 1 fen) Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi, 3 fen) Licorice Root (Gan Cao, 1 fen) White Peony Root (Bai Shao, 1 qian) Pinellia Tuber (Ban Xia, 1 fen) Bupleurum Root (Chai Hu, 5 fen)
Decoct in water and take.
This formula is the supreme medicine for strengthening the Spleen and soothing the Liver. When the Liver is soothed, fire dissipates; when the Spleen is strengthened, wind ceases. It must absolutely not be treated with Wind-dispelling exterior-releasing herbs.
Another prescription:
Jing Feng (Startle Wind) all stems from Qi deficiency. It is suitable to use Ya Feng Tang (Suppress Wind Decoction):
