This condition arises from spleen heat leading to heart heat, resulting in drooling. If the heart fire is not pacified, spleen heat will intensify, causing damp-heat to steam upward, making it impossible to stop the drooling. The prescription is as follows:
*Alianthi Cortex* (Lü Hui, 芦荟) (1 qian), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huang Lian, 黄连) (3 fen), *Menthae Haplocalycis Herba* (Bo He, 薄荷) (3 fen), *Poria* (Fu Ling, 茯苓) (2 qian), *Mori Cortex Radicis* (Sang Bai Pi, 桑白皮) (1 qian), *Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Ban Xia, 半夏) (5 fen), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gan Cao, 甘草) (1 fen).
Decoct in water and take orally.
This is a supreme medicine for clearing both the heart and spleen. It guides the heat downward, and the Gan syndrome (nutritional disorder in children) will naturally resolve.
Another prescription:
Scrapings from the inside of a woman's urine bucket (dried over fire and ground into fine powder, 1 qian), *Viriditis Cupri* (Tong Lü, 铜绿) (2 fen), *Moschus* (She Xiang, 麝香) (1 fen). Grind all together into a fine powder and apply to the gums; the effect is most remarkable.
Prescription for pediatric oral canker sores with fluid discharge and ulceration:
*Phellodendri Cortex* (Huang Bo, 黄柏) (2 qian), *Ginseng Radix* (Ren Shen, 人参) (1 qian). Grind together into a fine powder and apply inside the mouth three times a day; it will heal after three applications.
This prescription uses Huang Bo to clear fire and Ren Shen to strengthen the spleen; it is also highly effective for adults.
*Concha Haliotidis* (Shi Jue Ming, 石决明) (prepared with vinegar, 1 liang), *Alianthi Cortex* (Lü Hui, 芦荟) (5 qian), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gan Cao, 甘草) (3 qian), *Chuanxiong Rhizoma* (Chuan Xiong, 川芎) (5 qian), *Tribuli Fructus* (Bai Ji Li, 白蒺藜) (5 qian), *Chrysanthemi Flos* (Ju Hua, 菊花) (4 qian),
*Skullcapellae Radix* (Hu Huang Lian, 胡黄连) (5 qian), *Trogopterori Faeces* (Wu Ling Zhi, 五灵脂) (5 qian), *Asari Radix et Rhizoma* (Xi Xin, 细辛) (5 qian), *Euphrasiae Herba* (Gu Jing Cao, 谷精草) (5 qian).
Grind all into a fine powder. Remove the tendons from *Polyporus* (Zhu Ling, 猪苓), mash thoroughly, and form pills the size of rice grains. Take 20 pills per dose at any time, washed down with rice soup.
Although this condition involves weak stomach qi, it is also due to deficiency of spleen qi. Children who eat excessively without being able to digest the food will eventually have food refluxing upward to the stomach opening, causing vomiting. The prescription for rapid relief of vomiting is as follows:
*Ginseng Radix* (Ren Shen, 人参) (1 qian), *Amomi Fructus Rotundus* (Sha Ren, 砂仁) (1 grain), *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (Bai Zhu, 白术) (5 fen), *Poria* (Fu Ling, 茯苓) (2 qian), *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Chen Pi, 陈皮) (2 fen), *Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Ban Xia, 半夏) (1 fen), *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* (Gan Jiang, 干姜) (1 fen),
*Hordei Fructus Germinatus* (Mai Ya, 麦芽) (5 fen), *Crataegi Fructus* (Shan Zha, 山楂) (3 grains).
Decoct in water and take orally. In summer, add *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huang Lian, 黄连); in winter, add *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* (Gan Jiang, 干姜), each 3 fen. There is no case that does not heal. This is a modified formula of Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction).
