This condition arises because the Earth element fails to control Water. The prescription is as follows:
*Pharbitidis Semen* (Qian Niu, 3 qian) *Kansui Radix* (Gan Sui, 3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
[After one dose, more than a dou of water will be purged, and all swelling will disappear. This directly deprives the pathogenic Water of its momentum, allowing the Earth to regain its level balance. ... However, after taking these two herbs, salt must absolutely not be consumed. If salt is eaten, the previous illness will relapse severely and become incurable.]
Although there are many treatment methods for this condition, this prescription alone yields miraculous results. Secondly, *Ji Shi Li* (Chicken Dropping Wine) is also effective, particularly for treating Blood Distension (Xue Gu). [However, *Ji Shi Li* is ultimately not as efficacious as these two herbs. This is because *Ji Shi Li* is toxic, whereas this prescription is non-toxic.]
Another opinion suggests that using three qian each of Qian Niu and Gan Sui in the previous prescription is too harsh. It is better to use one qian each; this expels the disease without damaging the healthy Qi, avoids the need for repeated dosing, and adheres to the principle of moderation.
This condition is caused by Water Qi invading the Pericardium. When the Pericardium is oppressed by Water Qi, hiccups persist incessantly. This represents the summoning of Qi from the five Zang organs to rescue the Pericardium from the invasion of Water Qi. The treatment method should focus on promoting diuresis and separating dampness, after which the hiccups will naturally cease. The prescription is *Zhi E Tang* (Hiccup-Stop Decoction):
*Poria Cocos* (Fu Shen, 1 liang) *Coicis Semen* (Yi Ren, 1 liang) *Euryales Semen* (Qian Shi, 5 qian) *Symplocos Fructus* (Ding Xiang, 5 qian) *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cang Zhu, 3 qian) *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (Bai Zhu, 3 qian) *Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma* (Ren Shen, 3 qian)
*Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum* (Fa Ban Xia, 1 qian) *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (Chen Pi, 1 qian) *Evodiae Fructus* (Wu Zhu Yu, 3 fen).
Decoct in water and take orally. Cure within two doses.
This condition presents with protruding eyes, an open mouth, swollen feet, and asthma. People consider it an incurable disease. [However, they do not know that the Bladder and Kidney are interior-exteriorly related. The opening and closing of the Bladder are governed by the Kidney. Therefore, by unblocking Kidney Qi, the Bladder will naturally become patent.] The prescription is *Tong Shen Xiao Shui Tang* (Kidney-Unblocking and Water-Reducing Decoction):
*Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata* (Shu Di, 1 liang) *Corni Fructus* (Shan Yu, 1.5 qian) *Dioscoreae Rhizoma* (Shan Yao, 1 liang) *Coicis Semen* (Yi Ren, 1 liang) *Poria Cocos* (Fu Shen, 5 qian) *Plantaginis Semen* (Che Qian Zi, 3 qian) *Cinnamomi Cortex* (Rou Gui, 1 qian)
*Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Niu Xi, 1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
[Severe diarrhea cases are categorized into Fire Diarrhea and Cold Diarrhea. How then can they be distinguished? By the presence of heat and pain.
Fire Diarrhea is characterized by: thirst in the mouth, dryness of the tongue coating, and in severe cases, prickling sensations. The tongue coating is yellow or grey-black. There is abdominal pain that worsens upon pressure.
If it is Cold Diarrhea: there is no thirst, or if thirsty, there is no desire to drink. The tongue coating is white, slippery, and not dry. Abdominal pain is relieved by pressure; pain persists if not pressed.]
