General Formula for Draining Fire:
Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) (3 qian), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (5 qian), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) (3 qian), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (3 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. If there is Heart Fire, add Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 1 qian; if there is Stomach Fire, add Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 3 qian; if there is Kidney Fire, add Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) each 1 qian; if there is Lung Fire, add Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 qian; if there is Large Intestine Fire, add Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) 1 qian; if there is Small Intestine Fire, add Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix) and Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) each 1 qian; if there is Bladder Fire, add Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 3 qian. Why does the treatment of fire focus solely on the Liver Meridian? Because the Liver belongs to Wood and is most prone to generating fire. Once Liver Fire dissipates, the fire of all other meridians will also dissipate. However, to clear and scatter fire, it is necessary to use herbs with downward-draining properties so that fire has an exit route, thereby achieving efficacy.
Note: Bai Shao, Dan Pi, Zhi Zi, and Gan Cao not only have the effect of clearing fire but also possess diuretic properties, allowing fire to be discharged through urination.
This condition arises from the simultaneous hyperactivity of Stomach Fire and Liver Fire, which surge outward. It manifests either as Erysipelas (Dan Du) or as Sand Rash (Sha Zhen), rather than being caused by other types of fire. The formula used is:
Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Gan Ge (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (3 liang), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) (3 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. The brilliance of this formula lies in the use of Qing Hao, which calms both Liver and Stomach fire. Assisted by the heavy doses of the accompanying herbs, how could the fire fail to extinguish? It is also effective for treating children.
Divine Formula for Treating Fire Erysipelas:
Si Gua Zi (Trichosanthis Semen) (1 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. It is also effective for children.
For symptoms of excessive fire, where intense thirst leads to drinking copiously, calling out for water to save oneself, feeling hungry immediately after morning meals, or eating incessantly at night, the formula used is:
Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (5 qian), Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix) (3 qian), Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium) (30 slices), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (2 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen) (2 qian), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) (2 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (5 fen).
Decoct in water and take orally.
For those unable to get out of bed, already rendered incapacitated, this is due to excessive internal fire scorching and drying up Kidney Water. The treatment method should involve descending Stomach Fire and tonifying Kidney Water. The formula used is Jiang Bu Tang (Descending and Tonifying Decoction):
Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (1 liang), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1 liang), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang), Gan Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (5 qian), Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix) (5 qian), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) (2 qian), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix or Adenophorae Radix) (5 qian), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex) (5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
