二剂后,服六味地黄丸加麦冬三两、五味子一两,服之不再发,否则不能保其不发也。

散肺金,外邪退舍,不敢重犯,此肺肾同治之法也。〕
Autumn injury by dampness: If Wumei (Mume Fructus) and Miguo (Pericarpium Papaveris) are used, there will definitely be no effect. The prescription is as follows:
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus, 1 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
After three doses, the condition will stabilize. Winter coughs are all caused by autumn injury by dampness; how can one rigidly adhere to the concept of cold injury?
[For chronic cough, people invariably believe it is due to the accumulation of pathogenic factors. Daily use of diaphoretic agents yields no effect because it is actually Qi dispersion. Since Qi is already dispersed, continuing to use dispersing herbs naturally results in no efficacy over months or years. The method should employ one or two astringent herbs to achieve success. The prescription is as follows:]
Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 5 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 3 qian), Sheng Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, 1 qian), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 1 qian), Baijiezi (Brassicae Seminium, 1 qian), Suzi (Perillae Fructus, 1 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 5 qian), Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, 0.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
After two doses, administer Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) added with Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 3 liang) and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 1 liang). This will prevent recurrence; otherwise, recurrence cannot be guaranteed.
This treats chronic cough with miraculous efficacy for all ages, regardless of seniority or youth. The prescription is as follows:
Wumei (Mume Fructus, 5 qian), Gualouren (Trichosanthis Semen, 5 qian), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 1 qian), Pengsha (Borax, 1 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1 qian, soaked in child's urine), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 1 qian), Hanshuishi (Calcitum, 1 qian), Hutaoren (Juglandis Semen, 1 qian), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 0.5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 qian), Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 3 liang).
Make into honey pills, size of a cherry, wrapped in clean cotton wool, and dissolve slowly in the mouth. For consumptive disease patients who have not yet experienced hemoptysis and whose pulse is not rapid, this may be used. Efficacy appears after ten pills, and cure is achieved after twenty pills.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Xiacha (Fine Tea) each 1 qian. Decoct in water, chew thoroughly including the dregs, and swallow. One or two doses result in cure.
The symptom of lung cough is essentially lung deficiency, so tonifying the lung is obvious. Why also tonify the kidney? It is said that Qi of the Lung Meridian returns to the Kidney at night. If Lung Metal is injured by Heart Fire, it must seek rescue from its "child" (Kidney). If the "child" lacks sufficient strength, how can it rescue its "mother" (Lung)? The prescription is as follows:
Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 1 liang), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus, 4 qian), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 5 qian), Suzi (Perillae Fructus, 1 qian), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 1 qian), Shashen (Glehniae Radix, 3 qian), Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, 1 qian), Ziwan (Asternis Radix, 0.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
[The brilliance of this prescription lies entirely in vigorously tonifying Kidney Water while slightly clearing Lung Metal. Thus, the "child" becomes prosperous relative to the "mother," allowing the "mother's" enemy to be repaid. Moreover, with the inclusion of pathogen-expelling herbs, when used appropriately, it does not dissipate Lung Metal at all. External pathogens retreat and dare not re-invade. This is the method of simultaneous treatment of Lung and Kidney.]
