This condition also occurs at night, presenting with chills and fever, which is no different from conditions caused by pure Yin pathogenic factors; however, there is slight restlessness, unlike the usual quietness seen in Yin syndromes. The treatment method should involve tonifying Yin while adding a small amount of one or two Yang-tonifying herbs, allowing Yang to grow and Yin to diminish, thereby achieving rapid efficacy like an echo. The prescription is as follows:
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) [1 liang], Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus) [4 qian], Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [3 qian], Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum) [5 qian], Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [2 qian], Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [3 qian], Fu Ling (Poria) [5 qian], Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) [3 qian], Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) [1 qian], Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) [2 qian], Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) [1 qian], Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen) [3 qian], Sheng He Shou Wu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix) [3 qian].
Decoct in water and take orally.
The patient considers this to be Kidney deficiency, but it involves not only the Kidney but also the Heart; therefore, both the Heart and Kidney should be treated simultaneously. The prescription is as follows:
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) [5 liang], Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus) [4 liang], Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) [4 liang], Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [3 liang], Fu Ling (Poria) [3 liang], Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [4 liang], Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) [3 liang], Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) [1 liang], Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) [1 liang], Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [2 qian], Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix) [1 liang], Chao Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) [1 liang], Rou Cong Rong (Cistanches Herba) [3 liang], Bu Gu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus) [1 liang], Ba Ji Tian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) [3 liang], Bai Zi Ren (Platycladi Semen) [1 liang], Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex) [1 liang], Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) [5 qian], Lu Rong (Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum) [1 liang], Zi He Che (Placenta Humana) [1 piece], Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) [2 liang].
Prepare as honey pills, taken orally with plain water, 5 qian each morning and evening.
This formula uses Shu Di Huang, Shan Yao, and Shan Yu Rou to tonify the Kidney. It uses Ba Ji Tian, Rou Cong Rong, Fu Zi, and Lu Rong to warm the Fire of the Kidney (Mingmen Fire), which suffices. However, why must Ren Shen, Fu Ling, Bai Zi Ren, Mai Dong, Yuan Zhi, and Suan Zao Ren be added? This is because the deficiency of Fire in the Kidney stems from the deficiency of Fire in the Heart. If one only tonifies Kidney Fire without tonifying Heart Fire, it will instead increase dryness and thirst in the Upper Jiao. Therefore, to tonify Kidney Fire, one must necessarily tonify Heart Fire, so that Water and Fire may mutually support each other.
