For infants whose night crying persists, one lamp wick flower (Denghua) should be ground into a fine powder and administered with breast milk. This constitutes three doses. Each dose consists of one lamp wick flower. After completing this medication, the infant should rest in a quiet room for one or two days, at which point the crying will cease.
Regarding infant Danliu (a type of acute skin infection characterized by redness like cinnabar), if the swelling is floating, crimson, wandering, or covering the entire body, it is caused by toxic heat pathogens residing in the skin. Healing can be achieved by scraping the area with a porcelain plate to release blood stasis. If there is no improvement, Baidu San (Poison-Extracting Powder) should be applied; sweeping the affected area thirty to twenty times will ensure recovery. The *Huangdi Neijing* states: "Danchi liu [cinnabar-red swelling] reflects the color of fire; it is a disease of Xianghuo [Ministerial Fire]."
When infants suffer from Ganse Yan [dry, difficult-to-open eyes due to deficiency and wind-heat], unable to open them for several days, this is caused by Wind-Heat in the Liver Wood. Administering Liangge San (Cool the Chest Powder) several times will allow the eyes to open and the condition to resolve.
Infants who are emaciated, have hot muscles, sallow complexions, distended abdomens, vomiting, diarrhea, visible cyanotic veins on the abdomen, and hard, bowl-shaped masses in the hypochondrium are suffering from Ruyongpi [breast abscess癖], commonly known as Naispi [milk spleen]. Ruyongpi results from wearing thick silk garments and excessive breastfeeding. Excessive internal heat generates pathology in the muscle layer, while overeating inevitably damages the intestines and stomach. Manifestations on the body surface include red eyes, Danliu, scabies, tinea, furuncles, eyebrow loss, red-and-white mouth ulcers, gingival gangrene with ulceration, and alternating chills and fever. These are caused by improper holding by the nurse and steaming accumulation of heat, presenting with floating and rapid pulses in both hands. Pathology damaging the intestines and stomach manifests as vomiting, diarrhea, fright-gan, belching, abdominal distension, emaciation with sallow complexion, large belly with blue veins, pica (eating dirt), nose rubbing, tufted hair, and undigested milk curds. These result from overfeeding. If prolonged without resolution, it becomes Ruyongpi, presenting with deep and tight pulses in both hands; this distinguishes the two conditions. All aforementioned symptoms are attributed to improper holding and excessive indulgence by the nurse. For Pi accumulation disorders, Dingxiang Huabi San (Clove-Dissolving Obstruction Powder) may be taken in excess, followed by topical application of Niuhuang Tongge Wan (Calculus Bovis-Unblocking Chest Pills), Ganlu San (Sweet Dew Powder), and Yihuang San (Benefit Spleen Powder). If ineffective, a method of massaging the spleen is employed. The incantation reads: "Essence of Sun and Moon, aid my manual technique; cut down and eliminate, expel poison and command control." The practitioner recites the incantation once per breath, inhales air towards the moon, blows it into their palm, and massages the infant. If the illness is on the left arm, the practitioner uses the left hand; if on the right, the right hand. Alternatively, blow onto the infant's Naispi area and let the mother massage. Male infants use odd-numbered days; female infants use even-numbered days. Strictly avoid rainy/windy weather, gloomy conditions, postpartum women, and mourners witnessing the procedure. Perform before noon on clear, sunny days.
