[Ruiren Eye Drop]
Ru Ren (Prunus persica Seed, 1 liang), Jin Jing Shi (Calamine-like mineral, 2 liang), Yin Jing Shi (Silver-like mineral, 2 liang), Lu Gan Shi (Calamine, 4 liang, calcined), Chi Shi Zhi (Red Halloysite, 1 liang), Hua Shi (Talcum, 2 liang)
Mi Tuo Seng (Litharge/Lead Monoxide, 2 liang), Gao Liang Jiang (Galangal Root, 3 liang), Qin Pi (Fraxinus Bark, 1 liang), Huang Dan (Red Lead Oxide, 1 liang, washed with water), Tong Lv (Malachite/Vermilion Green, 3 qian), Sha (Sand/Mineral powder, 3 qian), Peng Sha (Borax, 1.5 qian)
Ru Xiang (Frankincense, 3 qian), Pen Xiao (Saltpeter/Niter, small amount), Qing Yan (Green Salt), Nao Zi (Camphor), She Xiang (Musk). (The above ingredients are all used in small amounts).
Take three sheng of flowing water from the eastern direction. First add Ru Ren, then add the remaining medicinal materials. Add one jin of Baisha Mi (White Sand Honey). Boil until two sheng of liquid remains. Filter through fine silk gauze, clarify, and mix in the aforementioned powdered medicines. Apply evenly to the eyes; it is highly effective.
[Fuming Ointment]
Baisha Mi (White Sand Honey, 1 jin, impurities removed, net weight approx. 14 liang), Mi Tuo Seng (Litharge/Lead Monoxide, 1 liang, select golden variety, grind extremely fine, washed with water yields approx. 6-7 qian), Xin Liu Suan Zi (New Willow Shoots/Calyx, 4 liang, peel skin and remove heart, half-dried and half-fried).
Take five sheng of snow water collected in the twelfth lunar month. Dissolve the honey and mix with the medicine. Store together with the willow shoots in a porcelain bottle. Plug the bottle mouth with a willow wood stopper, seal tightly with oil-soaked silk gauze, and boil in a pot containing black beans. Process from morning till evening. Support the bottle with a willow stick to prevent tipping. Use alternating mild and strong heat. Prepare an additional pot; when the bean water boils, replenish it from the additional pot as needed. Once boiled into consistency, filter cleanly using thick cotton cloth, transfer back into the bottle, and soak in well water for two to three days. Burying it in snow is even better.
Indicated for external eye obstructions (Wai Zhang).
Bai Ding Xiang (Stool of Swiftlet/Swallows' excrement, preferably collected in the twelfth lunar month, processed by wet grinding/water flotation, weighed at 8 qian), Jian Huang Lian (Selected Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, remove rhizome base, cut into approx. one finger-length pieces, 1 liang), Xin Liu Zhi (Fresh Willow Branches, three pieces of square-inch size).
Select the four superior medicinal materials above. Add one and a half sheng of fresh water; snow water is preferable. Soak for two to three shichen (4-6 hours) in spring and autumn, or overnight in winter. Boil in silver or ceramic vessels until six parts remain. Filter out the dregs. Separately, take one jin of honey. Grind Mi Tuo Seng (Litharge/Lead Monoxide) into an extremely fine powder (amount equivalent to three Chinese characters 'zi'). Mix thoroughly with the honey and boil separately. Use a lacquer-free spoon to scoop and drip. Pour into the honey while stirring rapidly. After the boiling subsides, one person stirs the honey while another simultaneously stirs the medicinal decoction, combining them fully and stirring evenly. Boil again for two or three boils until the color changes slightly. Filter twice through three liang of new cotton cloth to remove dregs. Store in a container. Apply to the eyes as usual. For this formula, use half he (a unit of volume) of each herb, plus a piece of Pian Nao (Borneol) the size of a wheat grain; omitting this is also acceptable.
