吐证有三∶曰呕、曰吐、曰哕。古人谓∶呕属阳明,有声有物,气血俱病也;吐属太阳,有物无声,血病也;

There are three types of vomiting syndromes: namely, Ou (vomiting with sound), Tu (spitting up without sound), and Yue (hiccups). The ancients stated that Ou belongs to the Yangming channel, characterized by both sound and expelled matter, indicating disease in both Qi and Blood; Tu belongs to the Taiyang channel, characterized by expelled matter without sound, indicating disease in Blood; Yue belongs to the Shaoyang channel, characterized by sound without expelled matter, indicating disease in Qi. Li Gao alone asserted that Ou, Tu, and Yue all belong to Spleen-Stomach deficiency. Jiegu Laoren further differentiated the three causes—Qi, accumulation, and Cold—from the perspective of the Triple Burner. However, all these explanations do not exceed the statement in *Neijing* regarding "various rebellious Qi rushing upward." Understanding this principle makes differentiation unnecessary as clarity arises naturally.
In infants, excessive milk intake leads to stagnation in the Stomach, causing insufficient transformation and transportation. Consequently, vomited matter consists largely of undigested milk curds, resembling overflow from an overfilled container. Symptoms include fever, sallow complexion, and abdominal distension. The ancient method primarily employs Xiaoru Wan (Digest Milk Pill) [composed of Zhi Xiangfu (Prepared Cyperi Rhizoma), Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Mass Medicamentum Fermentatum Chinensis), Chao Maiya (Stir-fried Hordei Fructus Germinatus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chao Sharen (Stir-fried Amomi Fructus), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); processed into fine powder, mixed with water to form pills the size of millet seeds], dosed according to the infant's age and size. Administered with Ginger Decoction to dissolve the pill.
[Author's Note] For vomiting due to milk injury, simply use Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Mass Medicamentum Fermentatum Chinensis) 8 fen, Fuling Pi (Poria Cocos Sclerotium Exocarpium) 1 qian, Chao Sharen (Stir-fried Amomi Fructus) 3 fen, Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 fen, and Jiangshi Pi (Zingiberis Officinalis Rhizoma Pericarpium) 1 fen. Upon administration, the retained milk is resolved, the Stomach is harmonized, and vomiting ceases spontaneously.
Infants may suffer from irregular dietary habits, overconsumption of greasy foods or wheat-based products, leading to obstruction in the Zhongwan region and subsequent vomiting. Symptoms include abdominal distension and heat, aversion to food, foul breath, frequent expulsion of sour and sticky matter, edema of the eyelids, and body fever. The ancient protocol first prescribes Sanleng Wan (Sanleng Pill) to arrest vomiting [composed of Wei Sanleng (Baked Bletillae Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jiang Banxia (Ginger-processed Pinelliae Rhizoma), Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Mass Medicamentum Fermentatum Chinensis), Jiang Huanglian (Ginger-processed Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos); processed into fine powder, bound with dough to form pills the size of broomcorn millet seeds, taken after meals with Ginger Decoction].
Subsequently, Hewei Tang (Harmonize the Stomach Decoction) is used to resolve stagnation [composed of Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus), Chao Cangzhu (Stir-fried Atractylodis Rhizoma), Jiang Houpo (Ginger-processed Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Huoxiang Ye (Agastaches Herba), Chao Xiangfu (Stir-fried Cyperi Rhizoma), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Mass Medicamentum Fermentatum Chinensis); administered with Ginger infusion].
[Author's Note] For vomiting due to food injury, simply use Shanzha Tan (Charred Crataegi Fructus) 1 qian, Baiyunling (Poria Cocos) 1 qian, Laifuzi (Raphini Semen) 3 fen, Chao Shenqu (Stir-fried Mass Medicamentum Fermentatum Chinensis) 8 fen, Guangjuhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) 1 qian, and Wuguchong (Tenebrio Molitor Larva) 3 fen as the guiding substance.
