When a child's ear bleeds, simply grind Wuse Longgu (Five-Color Fossil Bone) into a fine powder and insufflate it into the ear to stop the bleeding.
Redness and swelling beside a child's ear are all attributed to heat-toxin. If not treated urgently, it will inevitably develop into a large carbuncle. Internally administer Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) to drain Gallbladder fire. Externally apply Lvdoufen (Mung Bean Powder) in an unspecified amount, mixed with aged vinegar into a paste, and apply it to the swollen area. Change it when it dries up, and the swelling will easily subside.
Sores appearing before and after the earlobe of a child that ooze and do not heal are called Yueshi Chuang (Moon-Eclipse Sore). All should be treated externally using Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Kufan (Alum), Huashi (Talcum), Longgu (Fossil Bone), and Haipiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha), each in equal parts, ground together into a powder. If the sore is moist, apply the dry powder; if dry, mix with lard for application. It can be cured within a few days.
Profuse, foul-smelling nasal discharge in children indicates that Gallbladder heat has transferred to the brain, a condition known as Biyuan (Nasal Sinusitis), also called Naobeng (Brain Collapse). The ancient method uses Xinyi San (Magnolia Flower Powder) (containing Xinyiren (Magnoliae Flos), Cang'erzi (Xanthii Fructus), Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), dried and ground together). Take it mixed with scallion soup.
If Biyuan persists for a long time without healing, it is called Kongnaoshasha (Controlling Brain Sand). The ancient method uses Zibeizi (Concha Meretricis), commonly known as Nanshen Yachi (South Snake Teeth), or Gouwailuo (Dog Tail Snail) in Guangdong. Take two or three pieces, stir-fry them with vinegar until powdered, wrap in paper, and place on the ground to remove fire toxicity. Decoct Siguanteng (Luffae Caulis) and take the medicine with the decoction on an empty stomach.
[True's Note] Although Biyuan originates from Gallbladder heat transferring to the brain, it actually involves wind-cold stagnation郁结 (stagnating) fire pathogen. Simply insert fresh E'erbushicao (Ranunculus ternatus) herb, also known as Dihujiao (Earth Pepper), into the nostril, and the effect will be immediate. Alternatively, use old Daodou (Broad Bean), roasted over gentle heat until dry, ground into powder, and taken with wine, three qian per dose. For severe cases, recovery occurs within no more than three doses.
If it is Kongnaoshasha, there will be continuous dripping of foul-smelling discharge, occasional headache or dizziness, likely due to worm erosion, and the child's constitution is already deficient. Continue inserting fresh herbs into the nostrils several times, and concurrently administer Yiqi Buzhong Tang (Qi-Replenishing and Middle-Supplementing Decoction) to achieve a cure.
Accumulated heat in a five-year-old child causes blood to follow qi movement; when agitated by heat, it overflows from the nose, a condition called Bini (Epistaxis). The ancient method primarily uses Jiadi Dihuang Tang (Modified Rehmannia Decoction) (containing Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heizhi (Charred Gardeniae Fructus), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), and Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma)). Decoct in water and take warm. Externally use Chuanbi San (Insufflation Powder) (such as charred Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) and Luanyoufa (Human Hair burned with oil), in equal parts, preserved for nature, ground together). Insufflate a small amount into the nose to stop bleeding.
[True's Note] For persistent epistaxis, mild cases should first have Dengxin (Junci Medulla) soaked in water inserted into the nose. Internally, equal parts of Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) and Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) should be decocted and taken. If accumulated heat is excessive, causing bleeding to stop and then recur, use Sheng Heye (Fresh Nelumbinis Folium), Sheng Aye (Fresh Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Baiziren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae), Shanzhurou (Corni Fructus), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Lianrou (Nelumbinis Semen), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), decocted in water. Externally, use charred Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Baicaoshuang (Herbal Ash), Longgu (Fossil Bone), Jingmo (Beijing Ink), Muli (Concha Ostreae), and Xueyuhui (Ash of Human Hair), insufflated into the nose to stop bleeding. It is even better to moisten the medicine with Maohua Shui (Floretus Nelumbinis Agmen Water) and apply it into the nostrils.
