[Original Text] Method One: First, hook the big toe of the left foot with the right heel to dispel Feng-Bi (Wind Bi); second, hook the big toe of the right foot with the left heel to dispue Jue-Bi (Jue Bi); third, alternately pull the dorsum of the feet with both hands and place them on the knees to dispel Ti-Bi (Body Bi).
[Explanation] The first method: Adopting the technique of hooking the big toe of the left foot with the right heel can treat Feng-Bi (Bi syndrome caused by wind pathogen); the second method: Adopting the technique of hooking the big toe of the right foot with the left heel can treat Jue-Bi (Bi syndrome caused by counterflow of qi or cold limbs); the third method: Alternately pulling the dorsum of the feet with both hands and placing them on the knees can treat Ti-Bi (Bi syndrome affecting muscles and sinews).
[Original Text] Method Two: Lie supine, bring the two knees together, turn the feet outward, extend the waist, inhale through the mouth, distend the abdomen, exert oneself to the limit, for seven breaths. It dispels Bi pain, hot pain, and inability to move the lower legs freely.
[Explanation] Lie supine, bring the two knees together, extend the feet, extend the waist, inhale through the mouth, directing the qi to the abdomen so that the abdomen bulges, making the lower abdomen feel full and distended, exerting oneself to the limit in this qi circulation for seven breaths. It can eliminate Bi pain, hot pain, and the inability of the legs to move freely.
[Original Text] Method Three: Sit in a squatting position and extend the waist, use both hands to pull the two heels, inhale through the nose, exert oneself to the limit, for seven breaths, then place both hands on the two knees. It dispels Bi syndrome and vomiting.
[Explanation] Adopt a squatting posture to extend the waist, grasp the two heels with both hands, inhale through the nose, strive for deep and long breathing for seven breaths, then place both hands on the two knees. This exercise can dispel Bi syndrome and stop vomiting.
[Original Text] Method Four: Lie supine, straighten and extend the arms and legs, inhale through the nose, exert oneself to the limit, for seven breaths, then shake the feet thirty times and stop. It dispels cold in the chest and feet, generalized Bi pain, and cold extremities with counterflow.
[Explanation] Adopt a supine position, straighten and extend the arms and legs, inhale through the nose, practice qi circulation to the limit for seven breaths, then shake the feet thirty times and stop. This exercise can eliminate cold in the chest, cold in the feet, generalized Bi pain, and cold extremities.
[Original Text] Method Five: Stand or sit upright leaning against a wall, hold the breath and circulate qi, from the top of the head to the soles of the feet. It cures Da-Feng (Severe Wind), Pian-Gu (Hemiplegia), and various Bi syndromes.
[Explanation] Stand or sit with the back straight against a wall, hold the breath and circulate qi, guiding internal qi from the crown of the head down to the soles of the feet. This exercise can treat Da-Feng (severe disease caused by wind pathogen), Pian-Gu (hemiplegia), and various Bi syndromes.
[Original Text] Method Six: Place both hands on the ground beside the body, lift and extend the waist upward, for five breaths and stop. It removes Wei-Bi (Atrophy-Bi) and benefits the Nine Orifices.
[Explanation] Place both hands close together on the ground, lift and extend the waist upward, for five breaths and stop. This exercise can remove Wei-Bi and unblock the Nine Orifices.
[Original Text] Method Seven: Extend the toes upward, for five breaths and stop. It treats Yao-Bei Bi (Lumbar and Back Bi), Pian-Gu (Hemiplegia), and improves hearing. Long-term practice ensures that the eyes, ears, and other roots are free from obstruction.
[Explanation] While circulating qi, lie supine and curl the toes upward, guiding qi for five breaths and stopping. It can treat lumbar and back Bi pain, hemiplegia, and improve hearing. Long-term practice keeps the six roots (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind) mentioned in Buddhism clean and healthy, free from external invasion and interference. This method is roughly the same as the second method in the "Stroke Chapter".
[Original Text] Method Eight: Squat, extend the right foot, embrace the left knee with both hands, extend the waist, inhale through the nose, exert oneself to the limit, for seven breaths. It dispels difficulty in flexion and extension, difficulty in bowing and rising, and pain and numbness in the shins.
[Explanation] Adopt a squatting position, extend the right foot, embrace the left knee with both hands, extend the waist, inhale through the nose, practice qi circulation for seven breaths to the limit. It can eliminate difficulty in flexion and extension of the lower limbs, difficulty in kneeling and standing up, and pain and numbness in the calves.
[Original Text] Method Nine: Raise and embrace both arms to the front of the chest, hold the breath for nine cycles. It treats arm and leg pain, fatigue, and Feng-Bi immobility.
[Explanation] Raise both arms and embrace them in front of the chest, hold the breath for nine cycles. It can treat arm and leg pain, fatigue, and immobility due to Feng-Bi.
[Original Text] Method Ten: When one often feels stiffness in the spine and chest oppression, look up, raise the shoulders towards Jing-Well points, and move the head left and right, twenty-one times each side, pause for a moment, wait for blood flow and qi movement to stabilize, then continue. Start slowly and speed up later; do not start fast and slow down. If without illness, practice at three specific times: early morning, noon, and sunset. If practicing, do fourteen times per session. It dispels cold and heat diseases, pain in the spine, waist, neck, and occiput, Feng-Bi, and pain in the knees, neck, and head. Inhale through the nose, exert oneself to the limit, for seven breaths. It dispels Yao-Bi Bei-Tong (Lumbar Bi and Back Pain), oral ulcers, Tooth-Feng (Dental Wind), and dizziness completely.
[Explanation] When one often feels stiffness in the spine and head oppression, look up, raise the shoulders as high as possible, and sway the head left and right, twenty-one times each side, pause for a moment, wait for blood and qi circulation to stabilize, then proceed. Start slowly and gradually accelerate; do not start fast and slow down. Healthy individuals should practice at these three times: early morning, noon, and sunset, fourteen times per session. It can eliminate cold and heat diseases, pain in the spine, waist, neck, and occiput, Feng-Bi, and pain in the knees, neck, and head. Inhale through the nose, practice seven breaths to the limit each time. It can eliminate lumbar Bi, back pain, oral ulcers, dental wind, and dizziness.
Summary:
Bi refers to blockage and obstruction. When the exterior muscles, skin, and meridians of the human body are invaded by exogenous pathogens, qi and blood cannot circulate smoothly, causing a series of disorders such as pain, soreness, heaviness, numbness, and functional impairment in the limbs, joints, and skin, which TCM collectively calls Bi Syndrome. *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: "Bi is formed when wind, cold, and dampness mix and combine... Disease in Yang is called Feng, disease in Yin is called Bi, and disease in both Yin and Yang is called Feng-Bi." Thus, the "Feng-Bi" mentioned here refers to a more severe Bi syndrome caused by simultaneous invasion of wind pathogen into both Yang and Yin meridians, not merely the "Xing-Bi" (Wandering Bi) caused solely by wind pathogen.
This section discusses health-preserving Dao-Yin methods for Feng-Bi syndrome, advocating the selection of different Dao-Yin methods according to different conditions of Feng-Bi. For general Feng-Bi and Ti-Bi, alternating hooking the big toe with the heel several times can be used. For generalized Bi pain with mobility difficulties, lying supine or standing with back against the wall, holding breath while circulating qi and shaking the feet can be adopted. For lumbar/back and lower limb Wei-Bi, squatting with hands embracing knees and extending the waist, or placing hands on the ground and lifting the waist, combined with Tu-Na (breathing exercises), can be practiced. For upper limb Bi pain, raising and embracing both arms in front of the chest while holding breath and circulating qi can be used. For spinal and neck pain, looking up, raising shoulders, swaying the head, and using Tu-Na can be employed. It also points out that practice time should be arranged at early morning, noon, and sunset. Practice should start slowly and become faster, persisting long-term.
