[Goose-Style Qi Method]
Lower the head, lean the back against a wall, and perform twelve cycles of breath retention (breath-holding) guided movement. By using intention to guide retained fluids and accumulated food from the lower body to be expelled, the body will heal itself.
[Explanation]
The Goose-Style Qi Method involves leaning the back against a wall, lowering the head, and performing twelve cycles of breath retention guided movement. Using intention to guide internal qi into the stomach, one uses internal qi to expel retained phlegm-fluids and accumulated food, allowing them to be discharged through the anus; thus, recovery occurs naturally.
Summary:
*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases), "Volume 20: Various Syndromes of Phlegm-Fluid Diseases," states: "When practicing qi circulation, keep the body straight and the neck curved; letting the qi descend counts as one cycle, which can cure accumulated food." This originally referred to imitating a duck; because it mimics the duck's posture of keeping the body straight, lowering the head, and curving the neck while practicing breath-retention qi circulation, it was named the Qi Circulation Method. The method involves leaning the back against a wall, standing straight, lowering the head, curving the neck, practicing breath-retention breathing, and using intention to guide qi to expel phlegm-fluids and accumulated food in the gastrointestinal tract. However, both this book and *Yunji Qiqian* refer to this section prior to this point as the "Goose-Style Qi Method." Modern practices such as "Great Goose Gong" are also named from a biomimetic perspective, so the name "Goose-Style Qi Method" is still used.
[Dragon-Style Qi Method]
Lower the head and look down, performing twelve cycles of breath retention guided movement. It cures wind-induced scabies and severe sores, preventing heat pathogens from entering.
For those with throat diseases, face the direction of the Yangming meridian and lie down.
Massage the abdomen with hands down to the feet. Hold the feet with hands and pull/guide them. Lower the arms for twelve cycles, and practice breath retention for twelve cycles. It cures deficiency-type bi-syndrome in the feet and legs where walking is difficult, as well as pain in the waist and spine.
Place hands crossed at the nape of the neck. Treat toxic pathogens. If not cured, exhale the excessive qi from the abdomen.
At the time of the new moon, full moon, and sunset, stand upright facing the moon, and perform eight cycles of breath retention. Raise the head and inhale, visualizing drawing the essence of moonlight into the throat and swallowing it. This nourishes yin qi. For women, practicing this makes yin essence abundant and the reproductive pathway unobstructed.
[Explanation]
The Dragon-Style Qi Method involves bowing the head and looking down, performing twelve cycles of breath retention guided movement. It treats wind-induced scabies and severe sores, preventing heat pathogens from invading the body.
"The throat can monitor disease" should likely read "throat diseases." The phrase "face the Yangming meridian direction to reach, lie down" seems to have missing text. This remains under consideration.
Massage the abdomen with hands down to the feet. Upon reaching the feet, hold the feet with hands and pull/guide them. Then lower the arms, repeating this twelve times, and practice breath retention qi circulation twelve times. It treats foot diseases characterized by weakness, numbness, and pain preventing walking, as well as waist and spine pain.
Cross hands and grasp firmly at the nape of the neck to treat toxic pathogens. If not cured, circulate qi in the abdomen and exhale large amounts of gas to achieve recovery.
At the time of the new moon, full moon, and sunset, stand upright facing the moon, and perform eight cycles of breath retention. Raise the head and use intention to visualize drawing the essence of moonlight into the mouth and swallowing it into the body. This supplements and increases yin qi. Women who practice this make their yin essence more abundant and solid, regulate menstruation, enhance reproductive function, and facilitate pregnancy.
Summary:
The Dragon-Style Qi Method is named after imitating the posture of a green dragon lowering its head to gaze downward from the sky. The key point is "lower the head and look down, perform twelve cycles of breath retention."
The final paragraph describes the "Moon Essence Method." Ancient health cultivators believed that "those whose yin essence is nurtured live long." The moon belongs to yin, and moonlight is the brilliance of yin; inhaling it supplements human yin essence, and increasing yin essence promotes longevity. Women belong to yin; practicing this makes yin qi more vigorous, regulates menstruation, and facilitates pregnancy. Therefore, the "Moon Essence Inhalation Method" and "Sun Essence Inhalation Method" are two major practices for supplementing human yin essence and yang qi. The practice of the Moon Essence Inhalation Method is: raise the head and gaze at the moon with both eyes, without opening them too wide. While gazing at the moon, breathe normally. When eyes feel fatigued, gently close them and remember the shape of the moon; if the image fades, open eyes and gaze again. Use intention to visualize drawing moonlight into the mouth and swallowing it into the body. Long-term practice results in a "bright silver light" entering the five zang and six fu organs, making the whole body cool, gradually dispelling irritability, and entering a state of "tranquility." One may even see a ball of white radiance hanging before them, rippling within the body.
