Danxi stated that in humans, Yang is often in excess while Yin is often deficient; therefore, one should frequently tonify Yin to ensure Yin and Yang are balanced, thereby facilitating the ascent of Water (Kidney) and descent of Fire (Heart). Humans must take Kidney Qi as their foundation. Thus, this formula specifically nourishes and cultivates Kidney Water, following the method of Danxi, a former sage, which aligns with the Way of Heaven.
Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (Huangbai, 黄柏) [peeled, stir-fried with salt and wine], Rhizoma Anemarrhenae Asphodeloidis (Zhimu, 知母) [peeled, stir-fried with salt and wine], Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis (Guiban, 龟板) [edges and sinews removed, roasted with suet, each 2 liang, cleaned], Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata (Shudihuang, 熟地黄) from Huaiqing [steamed with wine nine times, then sun-dried], Herba Asparagi Cochinchinensis (Tianmendong, 天门冬) [heart removed, each 2 liang], Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜) [stir-fried until purple, 3 qian; 5 qian in winter].
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 80-90 pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with decoction of stir-fried salt. In winter, warm wine may be used; for those who do not drink alcohol, clear rice soup is also acceptable.
To regulate Spleen and Stomach, add Rhizoma Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae (Shanyao, 山药), Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 白术), Poria Cocos (Baifuling, 白茯苓) [each 2 liang], and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi, 陈皮) [1 liang].
To consolidate essence, add Concha Ostreae (Muli, 牡蛎) [quenched in child's urine, 7 qian], Fructus Corni Officinalis (Shanzhuyu, 山茱萸) [flesh, 2 liang], and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 白术) [7 qian].
To strengthen waist and knees, add Os Tigris (Hu Jinggu, 虎胫骨) [roasted with suet], Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae (Hanfangji, 汉防己) [washed with wine], and Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Niuxi, 牛膝) [radicle removed, washed with wine, each 1 liang].
(Experience) These nourishing formulas are suitable for scholars and gentlemen for daily longevity, extending life, and replenishing true Yuan to reach the age of a century or even immortality.
This formula specifically cultivates Original Qi, extends life, aids offspring, strengthens Yang Light (Mingmen Fire), warms Kan Water (Kidney Water), and descends Li Fire (Heart Fire), achieving the harmonious interaction of Heaven and Earth. It is particularly effective for those with deficiency-wasting syndromes due to excessive sexual activity, presenting with five-palm heat. Ordinary people over forty years old should also take it regularly to replenish True Yuan and achieve high longevity.
Placenta Humanus (Ziheche, 紫河车): One placenta, preferably from a first-born male infant; if unavailable, from a robust woman is also good. First, gently unfold the placenta with fresh rice wash water, rinsing five times with rice wash water without damaging the fascia, preserving the primordial Qi formed at conception. Cleanly remove any grass debris by hand. Place in a bamboo vessel and soak in running water for one quarter of an hour to absorb vital energy. Transfer to a small earthenware pot and steam inside a steamer without a bottom base. Start steaming from Mao-Chen hours (5:00-9:00 AM) until Shen-You hours (3:00-7:00 PM), using gentle and strong fire alternately until extremely soft and paste-like. Remove and pour out the natural juice into the herbal powder, mixing slightly; this is the juice of Heavenly Primal Righteous Qi. Place the placenta in a stone mortar and pound with a wooden pestle for one thousand strokes until paste-like. Mix thoroughly with the previous herbal juice and powder, pounding for another thousand strokes. Collect hands to form pills. This preserves Heavenly Primal Qi; using human to supplement human is most excellent. Few know this. Doctors mistakenly use fire-baking or wine-boiling, remove fascia, and erroneously add Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis. Therefore, I specifically clarify this.
Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis (Nongchuan Huangbai, 浓川黄柏) [remove coarse bark, stir-fried with wine, 1 liang], Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoidis (Chuanduzhong, 川杜仲) [remove coarse bark, roasted with suet until fibers break, 1.5 liang], Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Chuanniuxi, 川牛膝) [soaked in wine, radicle removed, 1.5 liang], Radix Astragali Membranacei (Huangqi, 黄芪) [soaked in wine, 1.5 liang], Flos Liliiorii (Maimendong, 麦门冬) [heart removed, 1.5 liang] (the above four ingredients are separately boiled in wine until soft and mashed into paste), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi, 陈皮) [white pith removed, clean, 7.5 qian], Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 白术) [radicle removed, stir-fried, 1 liang], Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis (Wuweizi, 五味子) [stalks removed, 7 qian], Fructus Foeniculi Vulgaris (Xiaohuixiang, 小茴香) [stir-fried, 7 qian], Fructus Lycii Chinensis (Gouqi, 枸杞) [stalks removed, 1 liang], Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (Ganjiang, 干姜) [charred, 2 qian), Folium Platycladi Orientalis (Ceboye, 侧柏叶) [tender branches taken, dried between papers after stir-frying, 2 liang].
For bone-steaming fever, add Cortex Moutan Radicis (Mudanpi, 牡丹皮) [heart removed], Cortex Lycii Radicis (Digupi, 地骨皮) [heart removed], and Rhizoma Anemarrhenae Asphodeloidis (Zhimu, 知母) [peeled, each 1 liang, stir-fried with wine].
For Blood deficiency, add Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui, 当归) and Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae (Dihuang, 地黄) [double the amount].
For Qi deficiency, add Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 人参) and Radix Astragali Membranacei (Huangqi, 黄芪) [honey-roasted, each 1 liang].
For women, remove Cortex Phellodendri Amurensis and add Radix Ligustici Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi (Xiangfu, 香附), and Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis (Tiaoxinhuangqin, 条芩) [all stir-fried with wine, each 1 liang].
Select and refine each herb carefully. Weigh cleanly and grind into powder. Do not use iron vessels. Use the previously steamed and pounded Placenta Humanus along with its juice to mix with the powder and form pills. If the placenta is large and fleshy, increase the amount of herbal powder accordingly; honey is not necessary. Form pills sized like paulownia seeds. Take 100 pills per dose on an empty stomach with rice soup. For those with illness, take twice daily. This formula is more effective than ancient prescriptions. It is especially suitable for those with weak constitution or those who have depleted their essence too early or excessively.
