The symptoms arise because the Spleen Earth is unable to withstand [pathogenic factors], leading to a lack of appetite. Consequently, Blood becomes deficient, causing menstruation to be delayed. Or, if food intake increases in the following month, menstruation may arrive early. Medication does not need to specifically regulate Blood; it is only appropriate to regulate the Spleen. When Spleen Earth becomes strong and robust, Blood will be even and Qi smooth, and menstruation will naturally occur on schedule. At this time, Zijin Wan (Purple Gold Pill) should be administered.
Zijin Wan (Purple Gold Pill)
Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Liangjiang (Galangal Rhizome), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (soaked in rice wash water), Binglang (Areca Seed), Zhike (Bitter Orange Fruit), Sharen (Amomi Fructus) (lightly stir-fried), Hongdou (Red Bean), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (processed), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma) (stir-fried with vinegar), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) (each 2 liang).
Grind the above into powder, use porridge made from early rice as a binder to form pills, sized like Chinese honeylocust seeds. Take 100 pills before meals, delivered with rice soup.
A Hong pulse at the Cun position of the left hand indicates anger in the chest. A Hong pulse at the Guan position indicates cold qi in the heart. A Hong pulse at the Chi position indicates non-solitude [having a partner]. If the three positions of the left hand are generally equal in size, it indicates pregnancy due to internal longing/thoughts. A Chi pulse small as a hair strand indicates menstrual irregularity; for women, this signifies disease of the Blood Chamber, where menstruation may be either early or late.
A Hong pulse at the Cun position of the right hand indicates heat in the Upper Jiao, cough with phlegm, and tidal fever. A Hong pulse at the Guan position indicates pain caused by cold qi. A Hong pulse at the Chi position indicates pregnancy. A small Chi pulse indicates uterine cold. If the six pulses of both hands are generally Hong, slow, clear, and slippery, it indicates longevity. If all six pulses are small as hair strands, it indicates weak Stomach Qi unable to digest food, accompanied by lower back pain, dizziness, and blood stasis. If all six pulses are Hong, large, floating, and wiry, it indicates the presence of Wind pathogen. For women, except during menstruation and postpartum periods, the diagnostic principles are the same as for men. In men, a Hong left hand pulse and weak right hand pulse indicate severe diarrhea. In women, a Hong right hand pulse and weak left hand pulse indicate severe diarrhea.
A solid and large pulse on the left hand indicates a male fetus; a wiry and Hong pulse on the right hand indicates a female fetus. Differences in the two Chi positions can distinguish gender; a slippery and solid Mingmen pulse indicates pregnancy.
Menstruation arriving early is Heat; arriving late is Deficiency. Blood stasis requires breaking; Blood dryness requires tonifying. Pain before menstruation at usual times indicates Blood accumulation; pain after menstruation indicates Blood deficiency. Fever at usual times indicates Blood deficiency with accumulation; fever during menstruation indicates Blood deficiency with Heat.
[Main Therapeutic Principles]
Women follow the Kun Dao, with Blood as the foundation; harmonizing Qi and Blood is most suitable for the body. If Blood is abundant and Qi is weak, it is treatable; if Blood is deficient and Qi is vigorous, it gradually deviates from normal. Blood Heat causes early menstruation with purple color; Cold Phlegm causes yellowish pale color; Dampness causes deviation from the cycle. Pain during menstruation indicates Qi and Blood stagnation; pain after menstruation indicates Qi and Blood deficiency. Regulating menstruation takes Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) as the ancestor; for Damp-Phlegm, Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) with Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) is recommended. For rapid pulses, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike); for weak Qi and Blood, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix). For deep and slow pulses with Qi stagnation, assist with Binglang (Areca Seed); for pain and fullness/stuffiness, add Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel). For Deficient Heat, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder); for Heart-tonifying categories, apply them. After clearing Heat, menstruation will naturally return on schedule.

Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (stir-fried), Chuan Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Shilianzi (Nelumbinis Plumula).
Decoct in water and take orally.
