案也,设君避毁誉,残喘,安得享余年。而遂付托之望哉,由是礼遇益浓。

Li Puting, Grand Commandant and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Personnel in the Southern Capital, suffered from jaundice at that time. He should have been treated with diaphoretic and leeching agents, but he had no heir yet, so he hesitated. I said, "When there is a disease, use the corresponding medicine. Use Yinchen Wuling San (Artemisia Capillaris and Poria Decoction) added with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lianzi (Coptidis Rhizoma), and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus). Two doses will cure it." In the Xinmao year, he had a son. Holding my hand, he smiled and said, "A physician's prescription is like a government document. If the ruler avoids treatment due to fear of criticism or praise, how can he maintain his remaining breath, let alone hope for longevity? Thus, my respect for you deepened."
The Administrator of Ying Tian presented with generalized yellowing of the skin, delirious speech resembling madness, and severe chest pain where touch was intolerable. This was a disorder caused by blood stasis in the middle jiao. One dose of Tao Ren Chengqi Tang (Peach Kernel and Rheum Decoction) expelled the blood stasis, and he recovered.
The younger brother of Prefect Zhu Yangshan presented with mania due to blood stasis in the lower jiao. He was cured using Didang Tang (Ephedra and Ground Beetle Decoction).
A scholar experienced dry mouth and fever every spring and summer. Fatigue triggered headaches. After taking cooling and phlegm-resolving medicines, he developed diarrhea, asthma, and restlessness. Subsequent use of Xiangru Yin (Elsholtzia Decoction) led to mental confusion and lethargy, with a large and empty pulse. This condition resulted from failing to abstain from sexual intercourse during the season of storage, known as "Zhu Xia" (Summer Malaise). I prescribed Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Middle-Boosting Qi-Enriching Decoction) without Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), adding Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), and Paojiang (Prepared Ginger). After one dose, the pulse became even more pronounced. I continued with the previous formula, adding Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 5 fen. Upon ingestion, he regained consciousness immediately. Subsequently, Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) was used to complete the recovery.
Another scholar, who was obese and fond of drinking alcohol, suffered from worsening phlegm and asthma in mid-autumn. Treatment with Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) plus Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) aggravated the condition. Adding Sangbaipi (Morus Alba Bark) and Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed) led to night sweats and shortness of breath. Adding Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) and Zhikqiao (Aurantii Fructus) caused intermittent fever. I diagnosed this as deficiency-cold of the Spleen and Lung. I used Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) to tonify the mother of Earth (Kidney), and Buzhong Yiqi Tang to support the Middle Qi, resulting in recovery.
A man engaged in sexual intercourse in summer and consumed ice-cold fruits, leading to abdominal pain. I treated him successfully with Fuzi Lizhong Tang (Aconite and Zingiber Decoction to Warm the Middle). Another patient with the same condition did not believe in this approach and died after being treated with Erchen Tang, Huangqin, and Huanglian.
A man suffered from fever in the height of summer, accompanied by chest and back pain, spontaneous sweating upon drinking hot liquids. After taking exterior-releasing medicines, he became confused and delirious, with loose stools and excessive expectoration of phlegm. One dose of Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten-Ingredient Great Tonifying Decoction) rapidly alleviated symptoms. Subsequent treatment with Buzhong Yiqi Tang plus Paojiang (Prepared Ginger) for two doses resulted in full recovery.
