It is the fluid transformed from Qi and Blood. Its taste is sweet, its nature is neutral, it is non-toxic, enters the Heart, Kidney, and Spleen meridians, and is a sacred medicine for moistening the Lungs, benefiting longevity, and extending life.
When human milk is dried and added to Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), it greatly tonifies Qi and Blood, harmonizes and unblocks Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, cultivates Yuan Yang (Original Yang), moistens and promotes muscle growth, preserves youthful appearance and brightens vision, calms and nourishes the Shen (Spirit), tonifies all five Zang organs, moistens the intestines and stomach, treats Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst syndrome), clears deficient heat, relieves Ye Ge (dysphagia/choking sensation), supplements deficiency exhaustion, dispels eye redness, stops tearing, and long-term consumption makes one's Qi harmonious and vigorous, resulting in a plump, fair, and lustrous complexion. It also treats stroke-induced paralysis, pain in the hands and feet, inability to move or walk, and drives away all deficiency-exhaustion syndromes; this is a method of using human essence to supplement the human body. However, its efficacy specializes in tonifying Yin; therefore, it is contraindicated for those with Yang deficiency, weak Stomach Qi, or Spleen Cold causing diarrhea.
Main indications (referencing *Douzhen Hecan*): Treats eye heat, redness, and pain; tonifies the Essence and Blood of the five Zang organs; stops tearing and brightens vision; for pustular eruptions that fail to fill with pus, use this to assist them. Note: For those who have been weaned for a long time, initial consumption may easily lead to loose stools.
Commentary: Milk is transformed from blood, primarily governed by the Spleen and Stomach, and regulated by the Chong and Ren vessels. Before pregnancy, it flows downward as menstrual blood; once pregnant, it remains to nourish the fetus. After childbirth, it changes from red to white, shifting from descending to ascending. This is the profound subtlety of creation, a medicine for dispelling illness and extending life. The common people often believe that milk can lubricate the intestines; if this were true, there would be no infants suffering from diarrhea in the world. When mixed with food, it may induce diarrhea, so it is best administered at midnight. It is advisable to take it well away from meals. As sung in Kong's verse: "The Immortal's wine, the Immortal's wine, two gourd flasks hold one dou, brewed from the Five Elements into true醍醐 (Ghee/Essence), present everywhere in the human realm. When the Dantian (Elixir Field) is dry and barren, swallow down the Chonglou (Esophagus/Throat) to moisten the withered and decayed. If one can drink over a sheng in the early morning, one returns to youth and old age, lasting as long as heaven and earth." Sun-dried and made into powder, named Rujin Dan (Milk Golden Pill), is especially good, but not suitable for those with Spleen-Stomach diarrhea.
The umbilicus is the root of life. Located between the Heart and Kidney, it is the residence of True Yuan Qi. During gestation in the womb, the umbilical cord connects to the uterus; the wonder of breathing and nourishment flows through here. After birth, when the umbilical cord is cut, a point of True Yuan Qi returns to the Mingmen (Gate of Life) and Dantian. Thus, the umbilical cord is called the "Life Root." The umbilical cord is also a gathering place for True Qi. Using it to treat malaria addresses cases of chronic malaria with severe deficiency-cold, borrowing its Qi to supplement insufficiency. In modern times, the umbilical cords shed by infants are burned to ash while retaining their nature and taken orally to resolve fetal toxins, attenuate smallpox/rashes, cultivate Original Qi, and prevent convulsions; this embodies the principle of returning to the origin and restoring originality. Umbilical cord ash, prepared by burning to retain nature, treats deficiency-cold malaria, resolves fetal toxins, attenuates rashes, regulates Original Qi, and prevents convulsions.
