Select the hair of a male aged twenty or above, who is free from disease, has a complexion that is red and white mixed, and whose crown hair has been cut. This is considered of good quality. First, soak the hair in a decoction of *Sophorae Flavescentis Radix* (Kushen, 苦参) overnight, filter it out, place it in a bottle, heat it over fire until red hot, allow it to cool, and then grind it for use. Hair is known as "Xueyu" (Blood Remainder), derived from blood. When males reach eight years old, their Kidney Qi becomes vigorous, teeth change, and hair grows. Thus, hair originates from human Qi and Blood. In individuals with abundant Blood and Qi, hair is lustrous and black; in those with depleted Blood and Qi, hair is dry and yellow. Hair tastes bitter, has a slightly cold nature, is non-toxic, and enters the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. It functions to enter the blood level, cool blood, nourish blood, stop bleeding, resolve toxicity, nourish Yin, and promote diuresis.
Head dandruff/scum refers to the greasy dirt on the scalp. It tastes bitter and is warm in nature. Its property is slippery and descending, entering the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Therefore, it primarily treats relapse due to overexertion (Laofu), acute mastitis (Chui Ru) in women, and strangury with obstruction.
Fa Ji (coiled hair), which refers to the hair roots, should be used if aged and stored for a long time. Burned into ash for medicinal use, it is also named "Xueyu" (Blood Remainder) and has a very rapid effect in nourishing Yin. It immediately stops bleeding in cases of hematemesis, epistaxis, blood stagnation, syncope due to blood, bloody dysentery, hematuria, intestinal wind, metrorrhagia, and leukorrhea. For throat and mouth ulcers, smallpox/measles-like eruptions (Wandou Chuang), wind-cold causing wind-rashes, febrile convulsions, and epileptic seizures caused by fright-heat, obtaining this remedy facilitates recovery. It opens blockages in the throat and diaphragm (Guan Ge), treats five types of strangury (Wu Long), promotes urination, treats spasms in adults, and heals metallic wounds (Jinchuang). When boiled with egg yolk to make oil, it can be applied to burns and swelling in children. Burned into black ash and insufflated into the nose, it stops sudden severe epistaxis in adults, resolves toxicity, relieves pain, promotes flesh growth, and dissipates stasis. Newborn hair (Tai Fa) shed at birth is the tender sprout of blood; for the elderly, it greatly tonifies decline and depletion. Loose hair fallen from ordinary people, preferably black and lustrous, is processed similarly and used for blood disorders, stopping bloody and white dysentery, and unblocking bowel and bladder movements. If hair is accidentally swallowed and wraps around the throat, taking ash of one's own hair and swallowing it with water can break the obstruction. If tetanus pathogen enters the brain, adding powder of *Polygoni Multiflori Preparata Radix* (Heshouwu, 何首乌) and administering with wine can restore consciousness. Furthermore, when combined with other herbs and boiled into a paste, it can be applied externally to carbuncles and sores to reduce swelling. Head scum scraped off with a comb is named "Baichi Shuang" (Frost of Hundred Teeth); made into pills, it treats strangury and relapse after typhoid; mixed into a paste, it treats acid regurgitation in the mouth and throat, and various魅 (demonic) ailments. For bamboo or wood splinters embedded in flesh, applying saliva mixed with the powder extracts them. For silk fibers entering the eye, instilling the solution brings immediate relief. For acute alcohol poisoning or mushroom poisoning, dissolving it in wine and drinking leads to gradual improvement. For early-stage mastitis, taking it with wine is also effective. Beard hair burned into ash applied to sores and carbuncles also cures them. Male pubic hair, when combined with saliva, prevents snake venom from entering the abdomen and harming the person upon a bite.
[Main Indications] (Integration of Smallpox and Rash Treatments): Human hair has a very swift effect in nourishing Yin. For patients with smallpox/rash accompanied by epistaxis, insufflating the powdered ash stops bleeding immediately. Newborn hair is particularly effective for treating Ding toxins (furuncles/carbuncles) and is listed as a top-grade medicine.
