Ren Qi (Vital Energy), primarily treats Xu Leng of the Lower Yuan (deficiency-cold in the lower origin/kidney yang deficiency). It is recommended to have children or adolescents blow their breath through clothing into the umbilicus and the lumbar kidney region daily, which is very effective. For anyone suffering from Bi pain (painful obstruction) in the body's bones and joints, having people alternate blowing air and warming (ironing with heat) the area can, over time, unblock the meridians. This is because Qi belongs to Yang and serves as the driving force for the entire body, which is also the True Fire (Mingmen Fire). Heaven cannot generate life without this fire, and humans cannot survive without it. Therefore, for the elderly and those with deficiency, sleeping with individuals before the age of fourteen (whose Shaoyin energy is vigorous), benefiting from their steaming warmth, is most advantageous, as it addresses the coldness and weak fire of the Lower Yuan. Receiving the "Lesser Fire" (mild vital fire) of a person in youth serves to supplement insufficiency; bone joint pain and bi obstruction occur due to blood stasis and stagnation. Since blood cannot move on its own but follows Qi, this method facilitates the smooth flow in the joints. Recently, some practitioners have instructed young girls to blow breath into the nasal aperties, umbilicus, and Jing Men (essence gate) to open the Dantian, a practice called "Jie Bu" (Connecting and Supplementing). Although this is a minor technique, those who do not grasp the correct principles may inadvertently cause illness.
Teeth are the external manifestation of the Kidney and the surplus of Bone. Their flavor is sweet and salty, their nature is hot, and they possess slight toxicity. They primarily treat Lao (chronic debility/overwork) and Malaria (Nue). Lao refers to extreme exhaustion where Essence and Qi are depleted due to Kidney deficiency, which also triggers Malaria. Since teeth are generated by Kidney Qi, they follow the principle of similarity. By treating the teeth, one supplements the root, thus addressing these conditions. The ability to resolve Gu Poison (gu poison) stems from their sweet and salty flavor. To treat inverted acne (where pustules fail to erupt) and unruptured breast abscesses, they utilize the principle of "using poison to attack poison."
Naturally shed human teeth are best. After processing and grinding into powder, taken with warm wine, they can raise sunken smallpox lesions, treat chronic debility and malaria, resolve gu poison, and also help raise breast abscesses. Human teeth ground together with black leeches can be applied to arrow wounds to extract the arrowhead and break down carbuncles. Human saliva, collected at dawn, moistens the eyes, removes nebulae to restore vision, and when applied to swollen abscesses, resolves heat-toxins immediately. Frequent swallowing of saliva, gathering it into the Dantian, clears the heart and lungs, descends fire; conversely, spitting out saliva damages the True Yuan (Original Qi).
Commentary: Saliva is transformed from Essence and Qi. The saliva produced during the fifth watch (3-5 AM) before speaking, when applied to swelling, reduces it instantly; wiping the eyes removes obstructions; swallowing it into the Dantian consolidates Essence and controls fire. Cultivators swallow saliva, calling it "Clear Water Irrigating the Spiritual Root." If one refrains from spitting all day, focuses inward (Shou Shi Fan Ting), Essence and Qi remain condensed, and the complexion does not wither. Frequent spitting damages Spirit and leads to Lung disease. Alchemists write the character "Huo" (Alive) with saliva and then swallow, which is indeed a inferior and fatal method.
Main Indications (referencing *Dou Zhen He Can*): Human teeth are used to purge pathogens from the Kidney Meridian. They are suitable for cases where smallpox lesions turn black, sink inward, and involve teeth-grinding. Some claim they should not be used for grayish-white sinking lesions. They should be calcined with fire, quenched in wine, or quenched in chive juice. Only a minute dose (1-2 li) is appropriate; excessive dosage should be avoided. They may be used alone or with a small amount of Moschus (She Xiang). However, the property is fierce; it releases the exterior too aggressively, disturbs the Middle Qi internally, and exacerbates ulceration externally. It should only be administered in desperate situations.
