Wumingyi (Black Copper Ore): Born by inheriting the Yin water Qi from the earth, its taste is sweet and salty, with a slightly cold nature, and it is non-toxic. Salty flavor enters the blood level; sweet flavor nourishes blood; cold nature clears heat. Therefore, it enters the blood level to treat injuries caused by metal weapons (Jinchuang) and sores/swellings.
Wumingyi treats injuries from metal weapons and fractures. When ground with vinegar and applied topically, it removes blood stasis, alleviates pain, and promotes tissue regeneration.
Jinbo (Gold Foil): Inheriting the sharp and rigid nature of the West, its taste is pungent, nature is neutral, and it is toxic. It excels at pacifying the Liver and directing Qi downward, as well as calming the Heart, expelling evil, and stabilizing the spirit. Thus, it is used to benefit against fright Qi, dissipate wind-heat, calm the soul, and pacify the Liver while settling the Heart. However, being heavy in substance and rigid in nature, ingestion damages muscles and bones. Hence, throughout history, those who sought death by taking it would die if they ingested even one or two qian, suffering from abdominal excavation-like pain, heartache, and intestines splitting asunder. Only when made into foil for external use does it cause no harm.
Jinxie (Gold Dust) dispels evil and toxins, eliminates heat and irritability, calms the soul, nourishes Heart spirit, and harmonizes blood vessels. It prevents manic wandering due to epilepsy, stops palpitations and wind-phlegm seizures. In pediatric Zhenxin Wan (Calming the Heart Pill), coated with gold foil, the decoration itself serves to pacify the Liver to treat wind, and simultaneously settle the Heart to clear heat. Jinxingshi (Venus Stone) treats lung damage manifesting as cough and hemoptysis.
Yinxie (Silver Dust) eliminates delirium, trance, and insomnia; stops heat-induced mania, palpitations, and seizures; stabilizes will and nourishes spirit; settles the Heart and brightens the eyes; anchors the Five Zang organs; and repels various evils. Yinxingshi (Silver Star Stone) is treated using the same method as Jinxingshi. Yingao (Silver Paste) consists of tin foil, silver foil, and mercury combined; it specifically treats Heart deficiency causing forgetfulness and fills missing or lost teeth.
Tongqing (Verdigris): Copper inherits the Yin Qi from Earth; the green color is the essence blooming outwardly, but it must rely on salty and sour flavors to form. Thus, its taste is bitter, sour, and astringent; its nature is cold, and it is non-toxic. Sour flavor enters the Liver and has an astringent property. Therefore, it aids in stopping bleeding from metal weapon injuries. Bitter-cold nature dispels wind-heat, thus removing skin redness and polyps. Bitter flavor drains stagnation, thus also managing Qi-stagnation chest pain and vomiting of wind-phlegm.
Tongqing is the essence of copper. It treats Blood-Qi chest pain in women, washes away wind-heat swelling and pain in the eyes, contracts wounds from metal weapons, induces vomiting of wind-phlegm, removes skin redness and polyps, and is effective for throat obstruction (Houbi) and mouth ulcers, yielding miraculous results.
