These herbs are made into honey pills. Another version of the formula includes Duohuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, Pubescent Angelica Root) 5 liang.
Treats hemiplegia or numbness of hands and feet due to stroke, where damp-phlegm and static blood obstruct the meridians.
Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix, Aconite Root) (processed, skin and umbilicus removed) appropriate amount, Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, Kusnezoff Aconite Root) (processed, skin removed) appropriate amount, Dansheng (Arisaematis Cum Bile, Arisaema with Gallbladder) 6 liang, Dilong (Pheretima, Pheretima Aspergillum) (washed, dried by baking), Ruxiang (Olibanum, Olibanum) (oil removed), Moyao (Myrrha, Myrrh) (separately ground) 3 qian 3 fen. These herbs are made into wine pills, taken with wine, 50-70 pills per dose.
Treats weakness of Kidney Qi, resulting in slurred speech and flaccid paralysis of the feet and knees.
Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Rehmannia Root), Bajiji (Morinda Officinalis Radix, Morinda Officinalis Root) (heart removed), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus, Cornus Fruit), Rongzong (Cistanches Herba, Cistanche Herb) (armor removed), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Prepared Aconite Lateral Root) (processed), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, Schisandra Fruit), Shihu (Dendrobii Nobile Caulis, Dendrobium Nobile Stem), Baifuling (Poria, Poria Cocos), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, Acorus Rhizome), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, Polygala Root) (heart removed), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon Bark), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, Ophiopogon Root) (heart removed). Each herb is used in 1 qian amount, add a small amount of Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, Mentha Haplocalyx Herb), decoct and take with water boiled with ginger and jujube.
The Kidney meridian originates from the Ran Gu point, runs inside the medial malleolus, ascends along the thigh, so deficiency leads to foot flaccidity and inability to walk. Its straight branch runs alongside the root of the tongue, so deficiency leads to tongue stiffness and inability to speak. Shudi, Bajiji, Shanyuzhuyu, and Rongzong tonify essence deficiency with flavor-rich substances; Fuzi and Guirui (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon Bark) warm Yang deficiency with qi-moving substances; Yuanzhi and Shichangpu facilitate the intersection of Heart Qi downward; Maimendong and Wuweizi strengthen the upper source of Water; Baifuling and Shihu traverse the fu organs of water and grain, transforming Ying and Wei to moisten Zongjin (major sinews). The Liver is not directly addressed because the Liver and Kidney are treated together. If all zang-fu organs perform their functions properly, then sinews and bones become strong, and joints move freely, leaving no cause for concern regarding slurred speech or flaccid paralysis!
Shu Fu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction)
See the "Dampness" section.
Treats stroke symptoms such as sudden coma, loss of consciousness, copious phlegm-saliva, and slurred speech.
Sheng Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, Raw Arisaema Rhizome) 1 liang, Sheng Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix, Raw Aconite Root) (skin removed), Sheng Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix, Raw Aconite Lateral Root) (5 qian, skin removed), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, Aucklandia Root) 2 qian. For each dose of 1 liang of these herbs, add 1 liang of Renshen (Ginseng Radix, Ginseng Root) and decoct together.
This prescription belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen, Foot Yangming Stomach, Foot Jueyin Liver, and Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao meridians. Nanxing is acrid and pungent, dispersing wind and eliminating phlegm; Fuzi is heavy and峻烈 (pungent-hot), warming the Spleen and driving out cold; Wutou (Aconiti Radix, Aconite Root) is light and dispersing, warming the Spleen and driving out wind. Both drugs circulate through the meridians without obstruction. They are used in raw form to harness their potent and rapid action. Heavy use of Renshen supports the upright Qi, while a small addition of Muxiang regulates counterflow Qi.
