(If vomiting occurs suddenly and stops immediately, it is not included in this category.) The rash clusters densely like snake skin; if the snake-skin-like epidermis breaks after the pustules rise, it indicates that Ying (Nutritive Qi) has lost its ability to bear toxins, and Wei (Defensive Qi) has lost its function of securing the exterior. It allows the fierce toxins to surge out all at once, taking on a shape resembling snake skin. (The rash is distributed like silkworm seeds across the body. Whenever the rash marks are spread like silkworm seeds throughout the body, it signifies that the Six Channels are subjected to scorching inflammation, which is a sign of certain death.) A swan flies across the sky; the key lies in Shuanglin having no dense trees. (Whenever the lesions first protrude prominently at the Tian Ting (Forehead), one must verify that the areas corresponding to the mountains and forests on both cheeks are sparse. This is described as "Shuanglin having no dense trees," which is considered auspicious. "A swan flying across the sky" refers to the single prominent lesion appearing first in the Kun position of the Tian Ting.) Four sages cross dangerous terrain; indeed, it is known that the true Yuan (Primal Qi) water is preserved. (The throat prominence and Qi Wo (Hollow below the Adam's apple) are the positions of the Sages in the Gate of肃杀 (Killing/Withering); the breast disk and chest mound are the esteemed positions of the Sages in the Gate of Chi Di (Red Emperor); the umbilical seal is the position of the Sage in Ming Zhong of Yin Di; the testicles are the position of the Sage in the Gate of Xuan Wu (Black Tortoise). These are called the Four Sages. It means that when the pus clarifies, suppuration gathers, and scabs form down to below the testicles, the four sages have passed their danger. However, the locations they inhabit correspond to the Heart, Lung, Spleen, and Kidney organs. If these dangers can be overcome, the True Yuan will naturally nourish and combine, confirming that the True Water possesses genuine Yuan Qi.) Blood basin with a carp stuck in the throat drives away Chi You; carefully observe the Xiao-red patterns. (The inner root of both thighs is the basin where blood gathers. If hard knots form here, accompanied by redness, swelling, and severe pain, one should urgently drive away Chi You to eliminate the Xiao-green toxic pathogen. To verify the toxicity, simply observe the area between the heart and mouth; there must be Xiao-red patterns coiling like snakes within.) The anus swells like a falling stone; quickly burn pomegranate to treat the Dan Tian. (If the anus appears swollen like a raised stone, heavy and stagnant, with redness and swelling resembling a fire-burnt pomegranate, it indicates that the Xuan Jiao (Mysterious Cave/Kidney region) cannot nourish, so one must quickly treat the Dan Tian.) The bronze bell is erected; fear that knocking on the abdomen produces no sound. (When the rash originates from the Spleen Meridian and is accompanied by continuous coughing for one or two days, one must guard against injury to the "bell." By the sixth or seventh day, hoarseness may occur, akin to a bell being erected but producing no sound when its belly is knocked.) Sealing the tripod and melting gold; prevent the loss of color in the furnace. (When the eyes and nose are sealed, and the cheekbones become scorched, purple, black, and sunken, it resembles the loss of color in a furnace. This is termed "Sealing the Tripod and Melting Gold." The nose is the orifice of the Lung and belongs to Metal, hence referred to as the furnace; the cheekbones are the region of the Heart and belong to Fire, thus using this metaphor.) Having food but not eating is not satiety; drumming the curtain causes abdominal distension. (After the rash appears, if there is no desire to eat, it is not because of fullness from food. Rather, the Xiao toxin remains incomplete, drumming within like a curtain, causing abdominal bloating and oppression.) No spring yet desiring to drink is due to consumption; boiling dry the throat and tongue. (If there is no saliva in the mouth, aversion to thirst, and a desire to drink, it is because the blood Xiao toxin is rampant and consuming, boiling dry the throat and tongue.) Do not boast that the fishing boat in the waves has crossed the sea; find the source. (When a person reaches eighteen or nineteen years old, the Yuan Yang is inevitably damaged, making it difficult to survive smallpox; hence it is called "the fishing boat in the waves," indicating danger. If the rash is abundant and fills the Tian Ting, it is like crossing the sea. However, the practitioner should seek the source and judge based on deficiency and excess.) Envying the paper-curtained small drum getting struck often; thickly cultivate the root. (For a one-year-old child suffering from the rash, the Qi and Blood are not yet complete. Like a small drum with a paper cover, how can it withstand striking? Therefore, one must thickly cultivate the primal root.) Liver and Lung gallop together; do not let go of the reins to run first. (If spots appear simultaneously on the left Tai Yang area and both shoulders, the Liver and Lung meridians are galloping together. Both areas should be beautiful. If the lesions between the eyebrows are prominent while the Tai Yang position is sunken, it is like letting go of the reins to run ahead; Lung Qi becomes strong and Liver Qi weak, leading to excessive control/restriction.) Heart and Kidney dual pillars; how can power be usurped to incite disaster? (The wide temples are the channels of the Heart; Cheng Jiang is the location of the Kidney channel. These are the abodes of the Yin-Yang dual pillars. Normally, Yang precedes and Yin follows, which is orderly. If the lesions on the cheek mounds are sunken while the jaw area shows Xiao-red military brocade patterns, it signifies usurping power and inciting disaster in the Heart.) After three days, the Xiao toxin scatters; the abdomen will certainly not croak like a frog. (After three days of rash manifestation, if the inflammatory toxin has exhausted itself on the exterior, the abdomen will naturally relax and certainly not feel bloated or make sounds like a croaking frog.) On the seventh day, flowers rot in the tripod; the skin sacs naturally lack Xiao itch. (On the seventh day, when the disease transmits to the Lung Meridian, if the rash is abundant like rotting flowers in the tripod, the skin sacs will naturally be plump and beautiful, without the worry of Xiao itch.) Yongquan leakage and swelling at the eye corners; Wood insults Earth deficiency, making it hard to block. (If pale pus and bleeding continue unceasingly from the corners of both eyes after the rash, it is named Yongquan. Like a spring that flows, clears when dry, and bursts when full, this is because Spleen Earth is deficient and cannot support and secure the exterior. Wood Qi insults and pushes towards damage.) Broken-bottom jar affliction on the sole of the foot; Spleen penetrates Yangming, causing extreme bitterness. (If abscesses occur on the soles of the feet after the rash, with foul fluid flowing continuously, it is named "Broken-bottom Jar." This is due to Spleen Earth depletion, failing to expel toxins outward. Thus, the toxin penetrates Yangming, accumulates, ulcerates, and causes extreme suffering.) The sound of kites in the wind blows away; solely due to consuming the Tian Yuan. ("Kites blowing away in the wind" refers to Qi-leaking rashes where the sound does not aggregate. Is this not consuming the Tian Yuan?) Hanging silver bottles in pavilions in the sky; only speaking of empty sacs standing vertically. ("Hanging silver bottles in sky pavilions" refers to falsely elevating the sacs and standing them up vacuously.) Buddha's Top Pearl, the second type of rash. ("Buddha's Top Pearl" is the second type of rash in the Spleen axis.) Inverted Mirror, unrecognized in the first column. ("Inverted Mirror" is the first item in the "Nine Unrecognizables.") Carrying a basket to pick crabapples; deeply understanding the ugliness of the Liver Meridian. (Rashes resembling crabapples are tender and red, lovely to look at, yet this Xiao-evil coloration is undesirable for the Liver Meridian.) Holding hands to seek golden oranges; exclusively highlighting the merit of the Spleen and Stomach. ("Golden oranges" are yellow outside and solid inside, used as a metaphor for such rashes, showing the extensive transformative function of the Spleen and Stomach.) On the ninth day, shaking the skin and hair; needing the second full moon to turn the axle. (By the ninth day, the disease transmits to the Spleen, shaking the skin and hair, resulting in perfect scabs. However, to turn the axle at the mechanism of the primal meeting, one needs the period of two full moons.) Two transmissions shed scabs; until changing fire restores Yuan. (At fourteen days, during the second transmission, if all scabs fall off, there is little to worry about. However, to fully restore the True Yuan, one must wait until the period of changing fire after three months.)
