Treats severe deficiency of the Spleen and Kidney, heaviness in the lower back and feet, difficulty in urination, abdominal distension and swelling, edema of the four limbs, rapid breathing with abundant phlegm, and even the formation of "worm syndrome" (complex conditions due to deficiency or parasitic diseases), with miraculous efficacy.
Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Di Huang) [4 liang], White Poria [3 liang], Cornus Fruit (Shan Zhu Yu) [pitted], Dried Yam (Shan Yao) [stir-fried], Cyathula Root (Chuan Niu Xi) [stir-fried with wine], Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi) [lightly roasted], Moutan Bark (Mu Dan Pi) [washed with wine and stir-fried], Alisma Rhizome (Ze Xie) [stir-fried], Cinnamon Twig (Rou Gui) [bark removed, each 1 liang], Prepared Aconite Root (Fu Zi) [processed until cooked, 5 qian]. Grind into fine powder, make pills with honey, size of Sophora seeds, take on an empty stomach with plain boiled water.
Earth is the mother of all things, and Water is the source of all things; these are the most critical aspects within the body. If the Spleen is deficient, Earth cannot control Water; if the Kidney is deficient, Water cannot remain in its proper position. Consequently, Water Qi rebels and floods the skin surface. If one mistakenly uses harsh purgative methods, disaster will follow immediately. Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) is a crucial formula for regulating the Spleen and Kidney. By adding Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi) to drain dampness from the Taiyin (Spleen) channel, and Cyathula Root (Chuan Niu Xi) to open the acupoints of the Shaoyin (Kidney) channel, urination becomes smooth, distension resolves naturally, and this benefits the True Yuan (Innate Qi).
Gently tonifies Kidney Qi, strengthens teeth, preserves youth, and maintains complexion.
Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Di) [8 liang], Cornus Fruit (Shan Zhu Yu), Dried Yam (Shan Yao) [each 4 liang], Alisma Rhizome (Ze Xie), Moutan Bark (Mu Dan Pi), White Poria (Bai Fu Ling) [each 3 liang], Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi), Cinnamon Twig (Rou Gui) [bark removed, each 1 liang]. Grind into fine powder, make pills with honey, take 60-70 pills per dose on an empty stomach with plain boiled water.
Treats Qi deficiency and weak Spleen function, characterized by poor appetite and abundant phlegm.
Ginseng Root (Ren Shen), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Bai Zhu) [stir-fried with soil], Poria (Fu Ling), Pinellia Tuber (Ban Xia) [processed until cooked], Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi) [each 2 qian], Licorice Root (Gan Cao) [1 qian, honey-fried]. Decoct with fresh ginger and jujubes in water.
Pinellia Tuber (Ban Xia) dries dampness and treats the root cause of phlegm; Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi) regulates Qi and drains phlegm manifestations. When both root and branch are addressed, attacking pathogens and tonifying simultaneously occurs: tonification does not cause stagnation, and attack is not too harsh. Hence it is called "Six Gentlemen." The Classic states: "Those who are strong recover as their Qi moves freely; those who are weak fall ill as pathogens adhere." Six Gentlemen Formula strengthens the Qi. When Qi is robust, ascending and descending functions operate smoothly; clear Qi ascends to nourish the upper, turbid Qi descends to exit below. What else could remain stagnant? Adding Cyperus Rhizome (Xiang Fu), Patchouli Leaf (Huo Xiang), and Amomum Fruit (Sha Ren) creates Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang, which has a slightly more potent effect.
Gan Lu Shen Gao (Sweet Dew Divine Paste)
