My great-uncle, Mr. Zhou Youting (Zhou Xiangchao), had three brothers: the second brother, Mr. Chunbo (Zhou Yongqian), was my maternal grandfather; the third brother, Mr. Kuiyuan (Zhou Yiqing). They were all benevolent and charitable, achieving miraculous effects in healing. I record this prescription to spread its transmission.
The Miraculous Prescription of Xianzhuan Bajì Gao (Carp Paste): Treats back carbuncles (fā bèi), ulcers, ding poison (liáng dú), and all kinds of unknown swelling and toxicity. It can dissipate lesions before suppuration occurs and promote ulceration once pus has formed. It possesses strong power to confine pus and draw toxins outwards.
Ingredients and Dosages:
Bādòu (Crotonis Fructus, 5 qian, shelled)
Jìyú (Cyprinus carpio, 2 fish, weighing over 12 liang each)
Shānglù (Phytolaccae Radix, 10 liang, sliced)
Lòulú (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba, 2 liang)
Nàoyánghuā (Datura metel flower, 2 liang)
Báijī (Bletillae Rhizoma, 5 qian, chopped)
Fānmùbiē (Strychni Semen, 5 qian, chopped)
Bìmazi (Ricini Semen, 3 liang, shelled)
Miánwén Dàhuáng (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma with cotton-like texture, 3 liang, chopped)
Wūyángjiǎo (Capra hircus horn, 2 pieces)
Quán Dāngguī (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, whole, 2 liang, chopped)
Liǎngtóujiān (Mus musculus excrementum, male, 3 liang, i.e., male rat feces)
Báiliǎn (Pseudostellariae Radix, 3 liang, chopped)
Chuānshānjiǎ (Manis squama, 2 liang, chopped)
Huángniú jiǎozhǎo (Bos taurus hoof claw, 1 liang, crushed and ground)
Zhū jiǎozhǎo (Sus scrofa domesticus hoof claw, 1 liang, crushed and ground)
Gātóu pí gān (Bufo bufo skin, dried, 2 liang)
Chuānwū (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, 5 qian, chopped)
Cǎowū (Aconiti Radix, 5 qian, chopped)
Cāngěrzǐ (Xanthii Fructus, 4 liang)
Yuánshēn (Scrophulariae Radix, 2 liang, chopped)
Note: Rat feces contain more females than males. Female feces are round at both ends and hairless; male feces are pointed at both ends and hairy. Do not mix them. Dried toad skin should be freshly obtained as its potency is strong.
Preparation Method:
Place the above herbs in a large wide-mouthed pot, add 3.5 jin of genuine sesame oil, and soak for three days. Boil until the herbs turn black, then filter out the dregs. Continue boiling until it boils again, then add the following prepared Xuèdān (Blood Cinnabar/Red Mercury Oxide, 24 liang).
Stir continuously with locust or willow branches until a drop forms a bead when cooled in water. Extinguish the fire and let it cool slightly. Then add the following ingredients:
Shàng Ròuguì (Cinnamomi Cortex, superior quality, 5 qian)
Rǔxiāng (Boswelliae Resina, 4 qian, de-oiled)
Mùyào (Commiphora Myrrha Resina, 4 qian, de-oiled)
Shàng Qīngfěn (Calomelas, superior quality, 4 qian)
Hǎo Yúnxiāng (Costi Fructus, good quality, 4 qian)
These five ingredients must be ground into an extremely fine powder and slowly sprinkled into the paste, stirring evenly with copper chopsticks. After it solidifies and cools, cover it on the ground for more than ten days to eliminate "fire toxicity" before use.
(Comment by Bingzhang): This paste is effective for early-stage carbuncles and ulcers, dissipating them before suppuration and promoting ulceration thereafter. It draws toxins outwards. For yin-type abscesses and nodules, it gradually resolves them. It excels at extracting ding poison and eliminating flowing phlegm nodules. It is indeed an important formula for external extraction and internal resolution in surgery.
