Below the twelfth thoracic vertebra is the Pigen acupoint (痞根, 痞根), located three cun and five fen lateral to the midline on each side. Moxibustion of seven moxa cones (moxa cone) on each of the bilateral points can eliminate the root of stubborn masses if they are difficult to dissipate.
[Note] For treating masses (痞块, abdominal masses), moxibustion should be applied to the Pigen acupoint, which is located below the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, 3.5 cun lateral to the spine. If the mass is on the left, moxibustion is applied to the left; if on the right, to the right. If present on both sides, both sides are treated.
The tip of the elbow is an Extra Point (奇穴, extra-point). Both men and women suffering from scrofula (瘰疬, scrofula/tuberculous lymphadenitis) can undergo moxibustion here. Treat the contralateral side: left lesions on the right, right lesions on the left. Concurrently applying moxibustion to Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool) accelerates efficacy.
[Note] The Elbow Tip extra-point is used for moxibustion in cases of scrofula. Left lesions are treated on the right, and right lesions on the left. In the early stage, men should treat the left side first, and women the right side. Combining this with moxibustion on Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool) yields superior results. Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool) is located in the depression behind the temporal region, at the hairline.
In cases of sudden collapse (Zhong'e, sudden qi stagnation/collapse), tremors with jaw clenching, or disorders attributed to demonic influence, urgently apply moxibustion to Guiku (鬼哭, Ghost Cry) to stabilize the spirit. Bind the thumbs of both hands together; the acupoints are located at the junctions (riding seam) of the four nail angles posteriorly.
[Note] Guiku (Ghost Cry) is indicated for conditions such as delirium due to "ghost" influences, confusion, tremors, and jaw clenching. To locate the points: bind the thumbs of both hands together firmly. Place a moxa cone on the fleshy area at the junction behind the four corners of the thumbnails. Ignite it. Efficacy is confirmed when the patient cries out that they are leaving on their own accord.
For conditions such as corpse transmission (Shizhu, wasting disease), external shock (Keyu, fright-induced illness), and sudden collapse (Zhong'e), measure accurately three cun posterior to the nipple. Apply moxibustion to the left side for men and the right side for women. This expels evil influences and naturally calms the spirit.
[Note] Moxibustion is indicated for Shizhu (corpse transmission), Keyu (external shock), and Zhong'e (sudden collapse). The point is located three cun posterior to the nipple. Men are treated on the left, women on the right.
For hernia (疝气, hernia/strangury) presenting with unilateral testicular descent, moxibustion is the primary treatment. Take a reed stalk and measure the distance between the patient's mouth corners. Fold it into three equal parts to form a triangle (△). Place one apex at the center of the umbilicus, and let the other two apes hang down to mark the lateral boundaries of the point. Treat the contralateral side: left lesions on the right, right lesions on the left. If bilateral, treat both. Use moxa cones the size of millet grains, applying four cones per side.
