久服地黄暴脱证,当未脱时,其人起居如故,惟精神不旺,或微有咳嗽;或腰膝无力;

Belching with a putrid odor, acid regurgitation, and abdominal discomfort indicate food stagnation injury; Pingwei San (Calm the Stomach Powder) can eliminate it. If there is abdominal tenderness with refusal to pressure (pain worsens upon pressing), Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) is appropriate. Do not delay or merely use Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) [or solely employ Hawthorn Seed and Malt], lest it lead to deficiency.
(If only Hawthorn Seed and Malt are used, the injured food cannot be expelled naturally, accumulating in the stomach like fermenting wine, causing the Stomach Qi to deteriorate day by day.)
Alcohol injury disease presents with vomiting and reflux, vexation, chest fullness, anorexia, and dysuria. Medical texts recommend Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Relieve Intoxication) to achieve recovery through mild sweating. *Qianjin Fang* states: Extreme drunkenness may cause intestinal rot. Prepare a decoction in a large vessel and soak (the patient or apply cold compresses); when cold, replace it, and the alcohol toxin will dissipate. This is also effective in summer. Alternatively, drink juice extracted from Imperata Rhizome (Mao Gen), or crushed fresh Kudzu Root (Sheng Ge). Or, take one sheng of Oryza sativa var. japonica (Jing Mi), add five sheng of water, boil until soft, filter out the dregs, and drink the liquid. *Zhang Shi Yi Tong* uses Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) minus Cinnamon Twig, adding Phellodendri Cortex (Huang Bo), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huang Lian), and Kudzu Root (Ge Gen), resolving the alcohol toxin via the Bladder pathway; this method is quite superior.
Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang treats alcohol injury according to the season; one must recognize the unique soaking method from *Qianjin Fang*. Kudzu juice, Imperata Rhizome juice, and Jing Mi juice, as well as Wuling San minus Cinnamon Twig, are each suitable.
Sudden collapse syndrome caused by long-term consumption of Rehmanniae Radix preparations: Before the sudden collapse occurs, the person’s daily life remains normal, but spirit is lacking. There may be slight coughing; or weakness in the waist and knees; or occasional hemoptysis that heals spontaneously; or occasional hematochezia due to wind-heat in the intestines; or hemorrhoidal bleeding in jets; or occasional discoloration of urine; and irregular bowel movements alternating between loose stools and constipation.
This condition can be left without medication. However, those who over-emphasize preservation invite doctors to fill their homes daily. Occasionally, flatterers claim to have a non-hot, non-cold, kingly-style gentle tonification method, which appeals to the patient. They prescribe formulas such as Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), Baxian Changshou Wan (Eight Immortals Longevity Pill), Qiwei Dihuang Wan (Seven-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), Dabu Yuanjian (Great Tonify Origin Decoction), and Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng Nourish Heart Blood Decoction) as main bases, adding Deer Antler Glue, Donkey-Hide Gelatin, Deer Antler, Sea Cucumber Glue, Mussel Glue, and Placenta Humana (Zi He Che). Concurrently taking Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) and Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), also adding Rehmannia, for a long time yields neither benefit nor harm. Yet, the entire chest cavity becomes filled with turbid yin qi, severely violating the warning in the *I Ching*: "Treading on frost, solid ice arrives soon" (indicating gradual progression). Occasional anger, sexual activity, banquets, or labor without avoiding wind and sun may lead to sudden unconsciousness, profuse phlegm-saliva, vomiting and diarrhea, severe panting, and profuse sweating, resembling stroke. Physicians blame these outcomes on self-inflicted causes, failing to realize that such behaviors are inevitable for ordinary people; how can one disease become so critical? It is precisely because of daily excessive nourishment of water (yin), leading to overwhelming pathogenic water, that once it erupts, it is incurable. There are three treatment methods: First, "clearing clouds to see the sun," using a large dose of Tongmai Sini Tang (Pulse-Unblocking Four-Reversal Decoction) with modifications; Second, "urgent dike defense," using a large dose of Shu Fu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction) plus half a cup of Ginger Juice; Third, "diverting flow to the sea," which is the previous two formulas with heavy additions of Poria (Fuling). With faith and no doubt, two or three out of ten cases can be saved. After regaining consciousness, add Ginseng. If Ginseng is used immediately during the acute phase, it fails to restore yang. Recognize this and do not err. This syndrome results from mistaken tonification, thus it is classified under excess syndromes.
