Powder the Rhizoma Pinelliae (Banxia, 半夏) and make water pills the size of soybeans. Use one pill at a time, insufflated into the nostril; for males, use the left nostril, and for females, the right nostril.
Chubi San (Insufflation Powder for Nasal Stimulation) (See True Stroke).
Radix Rheomi (Dahuang, 大黄) (1 liang) Alum (Mingfan, 明矾) (5 qian)
Grind both into fine powder. Take 3 or 4 qian per dose, mixed with cold water and swallowed.
For any injuries caused by knives or axes, or crushing injuries from falls and blows, applying this medicine will immediately stop pain and bleeding, prevent suppuration (formation of pus), and is superior to other medicines. The injured area must not come into contact with water. I prepared this medicine to distribute widely, but because it was difficult for those living far away to obtain quickly, I had the prescription printed and circulated broadly. Now that it is recorded in this book, its dissemination will be even wider. Households in each township with sufficient means should prepare and store it to aid in emergencies.
Fat of male pig (Boiled until melted, dregs removed, 1 jin 4 liang) Rosin (Songxiang, 松香) (Boiled until melted, dregs removed, 6 liang) Beeswax (Huangla, 黄蜡) (Boiled until melted, dregs removed, 6 liang) Wheat flour (Fenmian, 面粉) (Stir-fried, sifted, 4 liang) Camphor (Zhangnao, 樟脑) (Ground extremely fine, 3 liang) Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) (6 fen) Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian, 冰片) (6 fen) Sanguis Draconis (Xuejie, 血竭) (1 liang) Catha Unilocularis Fructus (Ercha, 儿茶) (1 liang) Resina Incense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (Roasted on bamboo leaf skin to remove oil, 1 liang) Resina Myrrhae (Moyao, 没药) (Roasted on bamboo leaf skin to remove oil, 1 liang)
Grind all the above medicines into an extremely fine powder. First, melt the pig fat, rosin, and beeswax together and mix them well. When the mixture has cooled slightly, add the powdered herbs and stir evenly. Store in a porcelain jar, ensuring it is airtight. Its efficacy will be evident when used.
Another prescription: Grind Adaptogen Root (Jiangzhenxiang, 降真香) into powder and apply to the wound for immediate healing. Powder of Panax Notoginseng (Guangsanqi, 广三七) applied to the wound is also effective.
Women's diseases are mostly the same as men's, except for menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth, which differ from men. Here, I specifically list these differences and describe them in detail below for reference. For similarities, follow the previous methods of treatment without further elaboration.
"Jing" (Menstruation) refers to regularity; it occurs once a month, following the normal course, symbolizing the moon's cycle of fullness followed by waning. If menstruation does not occur, it deviates from the norm, and disaster ensues.
Medical texts suggest that early menstruation indicates Heat, while delayed menstruation indicates Cold. This principle is approximately correct, but one cannot adhere to it rigidly. For instance, if the Zang-Fu organs are deficient and menstrual flow is continuous and profuse, occurring frequently, can it simply be diagnosed as Heat? Similarly, if internal Blood heat leads to Blood depletion and stagnation preventing menstruation, can it simply be diagnosed as Cold? One must observe accompanying symptoms. If the pulse is rapid with internal heat, lips are cracked and dry, and there is aversion to heat and preference for cold, this indicates Heat. If the pulse is slow with a cold abdomen, lips are pale, the mouth feels neutral, and there is a preference for warmth and aversion to cold, this indicates Cold. Yang constitutions and Yin constitutions are distinguished thereby. Furthermore, inquire about the menstrual flow: abundant flow with bright red color indicates excess Blood; scanty flow with pale color indicates deficient Blood. Abdominal pain before menstruation that worsens with pressure indicates Qi stagnation and Blood coagulation. Abdominal pain during menstruation that is relieved by pressure indicates Qi deficiency and Blood deficiency. I treat these cases using Yimu Shengjin Dan (Motherwort Golden Pill) and modified Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction), which typically yield prompt results.
