以上数篇,发明医中之误,细详调摄之方,盖弭患于未萌,治未病之意也。后此皆言治
Heaven One generates Water, which is named True Yin (Zhen Yin). When True Yin is deficient, it cannot control Fire, leading to Heart Fire flaring upward and overcoming Lung Metal. Consequently, symptoms such as fever, coughing, and expectoration arise. Fever is essentially Yang scorching Yin; coughing is Fire punishing Metal; expectoration occurs because Kidney Water is deficient and overflows like phlegm, similar to water in a pot boiling vigorously when the heat is intense. At this juncture, can mere ordinary herbs achieve the cure? One must take the water from the "Huachi" (Sacred Pool, referring to saliva), swallow it frequently, and regulate the formless with stillness. Only then, assisted by decoctions or pills, can one hope for Water ascending and Fire descending, thereby achieving the image of Heaven and Earth interacting harmoniously (Tian Di Jiao Tai). The primary prescription lies in swallowing saliva. The water of Huachi is the "Golden Fluid" of the human body; it spreads through the Five Zang organs, irrigates the Six Fu organs, and then enters the Kidneys to become Essence. If Yin within the Kidneys is deficient, True Water overflows to become phlegm, and even the water of Huachi will gush out together. The more phlegm there is, the thinner the body becomes; this illness is indeed fearsome. I now establish a method: throughout the twenty-four hours (twelve double-hours), frequently press the tongue against the upper palate so that the water of Huachi fills the mouth. Then, correct the posture, relax the breath, and use intention and visual focus to send it to the Dantian. Swallow dozens of times and then stop. This is what is meant by using True Water to supplement True Yin; seeking resonance with the same Qi is an inevitable principle. I often observe that those who treat deficiency nowadays exclusively rely on formulas like Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) for nourishing Yin and strengthening Water. While not incorrect, they fail to take drops from the source water for self-irrigation. This is abandoning the true for the false and cannot be considered a perfect plan for preserving life. This is why I earnestly speak these words. Gentlemen who value health, please listen carefully!
In ancient times, Patriarch Lü Chunyang (Lü Dongbin), known as the Pure Yang Patriarch, sold Ginseng Fruit at the price of one coin per piece. It specifically treated the Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, and all kinds of deficiencies and damages. It could also ward off external pathogens, aid digestion, lighten the body, prevent aging, eliminate disease, and prolong life. Truly a miraculous elixir! Upon hearing this, thousands gathered in the market to compete for purchase. The Patriarch shouted loudly: "This fruit is possessed by everyone, but you refuse to consume it." Only then did the crowd awaken. Nowadays, many suffer from deficiency. Some blame poverty for being unable to afford Ginseng; some blame doctors for not using Ginseng early enough; some blame doctors for using Ginseng too early; some complain about using too much Ginseng; some complain about using too little Ginseng; some complain that when using Ginseng, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) and Aconite Root (Fuzi) are not used as assistants; some complain that White Atractylodes Rhizome (Baizhu) and Poria Sclerotium (Fuling) are not used as reinforcements; some complain that Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Dihuang), Raw Rehmannia Root (Sheng Dihuang), Asparagus Tuber (Tian Dong), and Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Dong) are not used to moderate its effects. Discussions abound, yet no one reflects upon themselves, resulting in repeated efficacy followed by recurrence, making complete recovery difficult. Bearing this responsibility, how dare I act rashly? I have extensively consulted ancient teachings and traced hundreds of methods. Observing the treatments of excellent physicians through the dynasties, their methods were no different. Thus, opening my eyes, I took a cartload of Ginseng Fruit and distributed it universally to those with deficiency. All those whose critical conditions recovered were those willing to consume the Ginseng Fruit, regardless of whether other herbs were present. All those whose cured conditions relapsed were those unwilling to consume the Ginseng Fruit, regardless of other herbs. People, please ponder this yourselves, and you will surely understand the secret within. I only wish that patients would cherish their own treasures, ensure the efficacy of medication, live long lives, and not fail the profound intent of my Patriarch's salvation. This is my sincere prayer.
The above chapters elucidate errors in medicine and detail regimens for care and preservation, aiming to prevent disaster before it arises, embodying the concept of treating disease before it occurs. What follows discusses treatment...
