My Commentary: This syndrome requires the use of Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus), Renzhonghuang (Hominis Excrementum Depuratum), and Heyedie (Nelumbinis Folium) for best results. For Fa Yi Zheng (Parotitis), double the dosage of Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and add Danpi (Moutan Cortex). For throat swelling and pain, double the dosage of Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Bian Shi Therapy: Select a fine porcelain shard with a sharp edge, clamp it firmly with bamboo strips, tie tightly, expose half a fen of the edge, aim at the affected area, and strike the porcelain with chopsticks to prick all over the swollen area. It is beneficial to allow much purple-black blood to flow out. After pricking, apply a slice of lean meat to the spot, then moisten it with Ru Xiang (Olibanum) powder mixed with egg white. Pus formation is not suitable here; the head interior is hollow, and there are many twists and turns around the ears, making it inconvenient to drain pus and extract toxins. Therefore, needle and stone therapies are indispensable.
Needle Therapy: Use two small cloth-wrapped needles, fix them with hand technique, expose a tiny amount of the edge, and prick all over the swollen area. Release immediately upon bleeding. Apply the aforementioned medicine afterwards, and it will naturally dissipate. When using needle and stone therapy, one must maintain a sincere and focused mind, bite down on the teeth, and execute the piercing decisively.
