(Exterior resolved but interior stagnation) After sweating, vomiting, or purging in cold damage, epigastric fullness and hardness arise, accompanied by persistent belching. This is because turbid qi has blocked the clear pathways. Treatment should focus on descending rebellious qi and tonifying middle jiao deficiency.
Xuanfu Daizhe Shi Tang (Cineraria and Hematitum Decoction)
Xuanfuhua (Flos Inulae) specifically breaks up qi stagnation, while Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) excels at dispelling phlegm. Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) and Daizheshi (Hematitum) eliminate rebellious qi. Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Dazao (Fructus Jujubae), and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) are combined to tonify the middle.
(Interior cold suitable for emesis) The clinical presentation resembles Guizhi Tang syndrome, yet there is no headache or neck stiffness. Qi rebels upward through the throat, causing difficult breathing, and there is a sensation of fullness and cold in the chest. Emesis should be employed.
Gouti San (Melon Seed Powder)
Gouti (Fructus Cucumis Melonis) produces extraordinary effects in inducing vomiting to expel phlegm. Xiangchi (Semen Sojae Preparatum) harmonizes the middle and is most suitable. Chidou (Semen Phaseoli Radiati) additionally removes dampness. However, it is strictly contraindicated for those with blood loss.
(The Taiyang meridian syndrome is not yet resolved; this formula is still applicable for Wind Strike. See Taiyang Primary Disease for the formula.) Yangming disease transmits from Taiyang. The body remains aversion to cold, and the exterior syndrome is not cured. With profuse sweating and a slow pulse, dispersing the exterior is appropriate. The excellent formula remains GuiZhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
(The Taiyang meridian syndrome is not yet resolved; this formula is still applicable for Cold Damage. See Taiyang Primary Disease for the formula.) Pathogens transmit to Yangming, presenting specific symptoms. The pulse is floating without sweating, accompanied by wheezing. Since the exterior pathogen has not left, release of the exterior is still indicated. MaHuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) is used, demonstrating precise therapeutic methods.
Guizhi Jia Gegen Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction plus Kudzu Root)
(Attached Syndrome: Taiyang exterior unresolved, about to enter Yangming. Guizhi Tang seen above.) Taiyang exterior unresolved, disease manifestations are evident. Sweating with aversion to wind, and stiffness/tightness in the nape and back. To reach the exterior and clear stomach rebellion, add Gegen (Radix Puerariae) to Guizhi Tang.
(Taiyang exterior unresolved and already entered Yangming) Exterior syndrome suddenly presents with stiffness/tightness in the nape and back. Aversion to wind and absence of sweating require careful differentiation. When two yang meridians combine with diarrhea, Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction) is the excellent formula.
Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction)
Pathogens enter the two yang meridians, and the disease is established. The method of using Gegen and MaHuang together for dispersion is particularly refined. Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix), and Zao (Jujubae Fructus) harmonize the middle and tonify earth (spleen/stomach). Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) nourishes yin, and Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) vents the nutritive level.
Gegen Jia Banxia Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction plus Pinellia Tuber)
(Attached Syndrome: Exterior unresolved with interior stagnation. Gegen Tang seen above.) Taiyang disease syndrome combines with Yangming. Without diarrhea, only fright, vomiting, and rebellious qi occur. Use Gegen Jia Banxia Tang to unblock the exterior and interior, allowing the patient to recover.
(Exterior resolved but interior heat. Formula see Taiyang Complicated Disease.) The Taiyang syndrome has passed three days. After sweating, steaming heat persists. The disease is no longer in the meridians but in the fu organs. To seek treatment, the stomach should be regulated.
Tiaowei Chengqi Zheng (Regulating the Stomach and Resolving Accumulation Indication)
Cold damage has passed the period of repetition. Delirium arises suddenly with fever. Previous mistaken attack with pill medicines caused downward purging/diarrhea. Although the pulse is harmonious, interior excess exists, and it is generally treatable.
