Epilepsy (Xian Zheng) is characterized by sudden collapse and loss of consciousness, drooling from the corners of the mouth, or clenched jaws accompanied by urinary incontinence, convulsive traction of the limbs, or vocalizations resembling those of five domestic animals. It resolves spontaneously after a short period, with intermittent intervals between attacks.
This condition originates during fetal development when the mother experiences severe fright. The qi ascends abnormally without descending, causing essence and qi to accumulate together, thereby inducing epilepsy in the child. Treatment is primarily directed by Wendan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction). For the five types of epilepsy (Wu Xian) where phlegm-attacking therapy is indicated, Danfan Wan (Cinnabar and Alum Pill) is prescribed.
Wendan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction)

Danfan Wan (Cinnabar and Alum Pill)
Huangdan (Lithargyri Pulvis, 1 liang), Baifan (Alumen, 2 liang). Place these two ingredients in a silver pot, heat until red-hot, then grind into powder. Add Lacai (Sinapis Semen/Mustard Seed, 1 liang). Bind with pig heart blood that has not touched water, form into pills, coat with Zhusha (Cinnabaris). Take 30 pills per dose, washed down with tea infusion. Long-term use will naturally expel phlegm; after half a month, regulate with spirit-calming medicines. (Note: If pig heart blood lacks viscosity, add a small amount of refined honey for mixing.)
Sui Bing (Disease Attributed to Evil Influence) presents with reduced appetite, muscle wasting, mental confusion, foaming at the mouth during sleep, or tremors leading to syncope followed by recovery. The pulse in both wrists feels as if two persons are beating it. The complexion fluctuates between red and yellow unpredictably. This is caused by evil qi invading the body. Treatment is primarily directed by Qiexie Tang (Expel Evil Decoction).
Qiexie Tang (Expel Evil Decoction)

Grind all into powder. Separately, decoct half a jin of mutton meat to extract three cups of thick broth. Mix the powder completely into the broth and consume in one dose for immediate cure.
Eye Diseases (Mu Bing) result from the failure of clear yang qi to ascend. The eyes reside in the position of clear yang; only when yang qi ascends can divine light transform, allowing vision to perceive all details. If turbid yin qi rebels upward, suppressing clear yang and preventing its ascent, the two qi energies become congested and collide, causing eye pain. Liver wood (Jia Mu) fails to descend, and ministerial fire flares upward, damaging Lung metal. As Lung metal is damaged, the sclera becomes red, swollen, hot, and stagnant. Prolonged redness and pain cause turbid yin to obscure vision, preventing clear yang from penetrating, leading to the formation of cloud-like opacities (Yun Yi) that impair sight. However, the failure of clear yang to ascend stems from the Spleen, while the failure of turbid yin to descend originates from the Stomach. The loss of ascending and descending authority is essentially due to the maladministration of Middle Qi (Zhong Qi). Generally, excessive dampness causes Spleen disease, excessive dryness causes Stomach disease, excessive heat causes Fire disease, and excessive cold causes Water disease. Balancing these excesses restores equilibrium, thereby regulating Middle Qi.
For redness and pain in the left eye, Chaihu Shaoyao Danpi Tang (Bupleurum, Peony, and Moutan Decoction) is prescribed.
For redness and pain in the right eye, Baihe Wuwei Tang (Lily and Schisandra Decoction) is prescribed.
For cases involving cold-dampness of water and earth combined with upper heat causing redness and pain, Baihe Wuwei Jiangfu Tang (Lily, Schisandra, Ginger, and Aconite Decoction) is prescribed.
For yellow-red eyes caused by damp-heat steaming, Fuze Shigao Tang (Poria, Alisma, and Gypsum Decoction) is prescribed.
For blurred vision without redness or pain, Guizhi Danpi Shouwu Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Moutan, and Polygonum Multiflorum Decoction) is prescribed.
For constricted pupils, Guizhi Chaihu Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Bupleurum Decoction) is prescribed.
For dilated pupils, Wumei Shanyu Tang (Mume Fruit and Cornus Decoction) is prescribed.
For sunken eyeballs, Jianggui Shenling Shouwu Tang (Ginger, Cinnamon, Ginseng, Poria, and Polygonum Multiflorum Decoction) is prescribed.
For protruding eyeballs, Shaoyao Zaoren Chaihu Tang (Peony, Ziziphus Seed, and Bupleurum Decoction) is prescribed.
