[Outline of Ear Diseases] When pathogenic fire rebels upward, the disease develops rapidly; the ears may suffer from hearing loss, redness, swelling, and heat. If pain, carbuncles, or suppuration occur, prompt treatment is required. The therapeutic principle should be to descend turbid yin and ascend clear yang.
Chaihu Shaoyao Fuling Tang (Bupleurum, Peony, and Poria Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), Shaoyao (Peony Root), and Fuling (Poria) are all present; Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) and Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) are preferably decocted together. After taking this, ear swelling and pain subside, and the rebellious pathogenic heat is completely cured. (If heat is severe, add Huangqin (Scutellaria Root); if pus has formed, add Danpi (Moutan Cortex) and Taoren (Peach Seed).)
Lingze Shaoyao Tang (Poria, Alisma, and Peony Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), and Fuling (Poria) work together; Xingren (Apricot Seed) and Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) act with wonderful efficacy. For diseases in the ear discharging yellow fluid, take this decoction without stopping.
Shenfu Wuwei Shaoyao Tang (Ginseng, Poria, Schisandra, and Peony Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Fuling (Poria) are combined; Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) and Renshen (Ginseng Root) enhance efficacy. Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) assists in descending turbidity; this formula specifically treats hearing loss in the ears.
[Outline of Nasal Diseases] Nasal issues arise from rebellious lung qi failing to clear; external contraction of wind-cold causes the disease. Sneezing, rhinorrhea, and sores appear simultaneously. If suppuration occurs with a foul odor, it is alarming.
Jiegeng Yuanshen Tang (Platycodon and Scrophularia Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Gancao (Licorice Root), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Fuling (Poria), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) are used; Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root) and Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) along with Xingren (Apricot Seed) are effective. For nasal congestion due to excessive discharge caused by lung qi rebellion, this formula should be used to treat stagnation.
Wuwei Shigao Tang (Schisandra and Gypsum Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and Fuling (Poria) are combined with Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum); Xingren (Apricot Seed) and Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) are decocted together. Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root) and Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) must be added; for yellow rhinorrhea, the therapeutic effect is excellent.
Huangqin Beimu Tang (Scutellaria and Fritillaria Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Shaoyao (Peony Root), and Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) are combined; Xingren (Apricot Seed) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) are mixed with Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root). For heat-type sores in the nostrils, this formula specifically aids lung yin.
Lingze Jiangsu Tang (Poria, Alisma, Ginger, and Perilla Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Nasal congestion resulting from wind injury has an effective prescription: use Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), and Xingren (Apricot Seed), combined with Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger).
[Outline of Mouth Diseases] Dry-heat filling the chest leads to disease formation, rooted solely in the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Turbid yin fails to descend, causing rebellion; the lips and mouth corners swell and hurt, producing foul odors.
Gancao Huangqin Tang (Licorice and Scutellaria Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Gancao (Licorice Root) combine with Huangqin (Scutellaria Root); Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) and Fuling (Poria) have sinking properties. Damp-heat steaming can originally be treated, preventing foul oral odors from invading.
Beimu Yuanshen Tang (Fritillaria and Scrophularia Decoction)
Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) and Gancao (Licorice Root) combine with Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root); adding Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb) further benefits yin. It specifically treats mouth ulcers accompanied by heat swelling, secretly dissipating turbid qi in the stomach.
Guizhi Jiangling Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Ginger, and Poria Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Note) Spleen dampness overturns and startles gallbladder fire into generation; lower cold and upper heat lead to mouth ulcers. Use Fuling (Poria), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), and Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root); adding Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Gancao (Licorice Root) refines the method to benefit essence.
