[Outline of Lower Back Pain] The kidneys are located in the waist region; distinguishing their pathology requires grasping the essence. Are there no causes related to contracting cold or dampness? Whether treating deficiency (Xu) or excess (Shi), what principles should guide therapy? Ultimately, excellent methods should emulate the ancients.
Shen Zhuo Tang (Kidney-Attaching Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome) When the etiology is dampness, it should be attacked promptly. The Shen Zhuo Tang is effective for this condition. Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) dries dampness and strengthens the spleen; Fuling (Poria) drains water; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) warms the interior; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) harmonizes the middle jiao.
Guizhi Jiang Ling Ejiao Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Ginger, Poria, and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome) When lower back pain arises from deficiency-cold, Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Fuling (Poria) are suitable for dispelling dampness and scattering wind; Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) promote blood circulation; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) warms and unblocks yang; Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) soothe the liver; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) tonifies the spleen.
[Outline of Headache] Headaches generally stem from fire, wind, or cold. Pain due to yin-deficiency with internal heat or yang-deficiency also presents similarly. One must carefully distinguish the etiology to seek appropriate treatment; do not act rashly or seek quick success.
Yuanshen Yin (Scrophulariae Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome) When excessive fire causes intensified headache, take one liang of Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) decocted as tea. Heat in the upper jiao is the root of the disease; the method of nourishing yin yields marvelous results worthy of praise.
Xiaoyao San minus Baizhu plus Chuanxiong and Bai Zhi Tang (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder minus Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma plus Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma and Angelicae Dahuricae Radix Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Fuling (Poria), and Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) work together; adding Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) harmonizes the stomach. Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) are suitably combined; headaches caused by wind will heal immediately after treatment.
Danggui Buxue Tang plus Lurong Formula (Tangkuei Tonifying the Blood Decoction plus Deer Antler Formula)
(Attached Syndrome) To harmonize the nutritive level and assist qi, Huangqi (Astragali Radix) is used; Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) moistens the liver and serves as an auxiliary agent effectively. Adding Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum) specifically tonifies blood; it can treat all types of headaches due to yin-deficiency.
Zuo Gui Yin plus Rongshen, Chuanxiong, and Xixin Formula (Left Restoring Drink plus Cynomorii Fructus, Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and Asari Radix Formula)
(Attached Syndrome) How to treat kidney-deficiency headaches? Use Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma - *Note: Text says 'Di', likely Dihuang*, but context implies standard Zuo Gui ingredients. Text lists 'Di, Yu, Zhen, Ling, Qi, Cao'. Assuming Dihuang, Shanzhuyu, Fuling, Gouqi, Gancao*), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Fuling (Poria), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Adding Rongshen (Cynomorii Fructus), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Xixin (Asari Radix) yields miraculous effects; nourishing yin and draining fire produces magical efficacy.
Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome) Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) specializes in warming the interior; Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) assists excellently. Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) jointly assist qi; this is a divine formula for treating headaches due to yang-deficiency.
[Outline of Vertigo/Dizziness] Vertigo stems from phlegm-fluids and liver-wind; it may also arise from fire or deficiency, presenting similarly. Differentiating the syndrome and formulating prescriptions according to proper principles ensures success with a single dose.
Erchen Tang modified (Two-Aged Decoction Modified)
(Attached Syndrome) Specifically for vertigo due to liver-wind, Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) are preferably administered together. Adding Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), and Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis) makes the modified decoction even more effective.
Erchen Tang modified (Two-Aged Decoction Modified)
(Attached Syndrome Erchen Tang see above) If vertigo arises from phlegm-fluids, Erchen Tang is the primary treatment to calm the patient. Doubling the dosage of Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and adding Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma); if fire is excessive, adding Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) is more precise.
Yiwei Lurong Jiu (Single-Ingredient Deer Antler Wine)
(Attached Syndrome) The antler growing on the top of the head is called Banlong. For vertigo due to deficiency, this deer antler is used. Decoct it in good wine, add Shexiang (Moschus), and drink; one cup of this spiritual medicine rapidly relieves the chest.
Yiwei Dahuang San (Single-Ingredient Rheum Powder)
(Attached Syndrome) Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) is ground into powder and taken mixed with tea, resembling dew descending from the golden pillar. If vertigo is certainly caused by fire, one cup entering the abdomen eliminates all heat.
