In Taiyang disease (Disease of the Taiyang channel), if the pulse is slippery and there is cold extremities (Jue, reversal cold), it indicates heat in the interior; Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Taiyang disease, if the pulse is floating and slippery, this indicates heat in the interior and cold in the exterior; Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) is the primary treatment. When the three Yang channels (Taiyang, Yangming, Shaoyang) are combined in disease, symptoms include abdominal fullness, heaviness of the body, difficulty in turning over, numbness of the mouth and face with a greasy appearance, delirium (Zhenyu), and urinary incontinence. If sweating methods are misused, delirium will worsen; if purgative methods are misused, sweat will appear on the forehead and cold extremities will occur; if spontaneous sweating is present, Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Taiyang disease, if the pulse is floating, there is fever but no sweating, and the exterior syndrome is not resolved, Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) should not be given; if there is thirst for water and no exterior syndrome, Baizhu Jia Renshen Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Ginseng) is the primary treatment. In Taiyang disease, if there is no significant fever but there is dry mouth and thirst, mental restlessness, and slight aversion to cold on the back, Baizhu Jia Renshen Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Ginseng) is the primary treatment. After taking Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), if profuse sweating occurs followed by severe, unrelenting thirst and a flooding pulse, Baizhu Jia Renshen Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Ginseng) is the primary treatment. After emetic or purgative treatments for Taiyang disease, if the condition persists for seven to eight days with heat結 (juxtaposition) in the interior, simultaneous heat in the interior and exterior, occasional aversion to wind, extreme thirst, a dry tongue with irritability, and a desire to drink several liters of water, Baizhu Jia Renshen Tang (White Tiger Decoction plus Ginseng) is the primary treatment. When Taiyang and Shaoyang channels are combined in disease, with spontaneous diarrhea, Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction) is administered. In Yangming disease, if the pulse is floating, there is fever, thirst for water, and difficult urination, Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Yangming disease, if there is excessive sweating and thirst, Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) should not be used, because excessive sweating causes dryness in the stomach, and Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) promotes urination, which would further deplete fluids.
In Shaoyin disease, if diarrhea lasts for six to seven days accompanied by cough, vomiting, thirst, mental restlessness, and inability to sleep, Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Yangming disease, if there is fever and sweating, this is called "heat venting" (Re Yue), meaning heat is dispersing outward, so jaundice will not develop. However, if there is only sweating on the head, no sweating on the body, stopping at the neck, difficult urination, and thirst for liquid food, this indicates stagnant heat in the interior, and jaundice will certainly develop; Yinchen Hao Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Taiyang disease, if after seven to eight days the body turns yellow like an orange peel, with difficult urination and mild abdominal fullness, Yinchen Hao Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Taiyang disease, if there is jaundice with fever, Zhizi Bopi Tang (Gardeniae and Phellodendron Bark Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Shaoyin disease, if two to three days have passed since onset, with mental restlessness and inability to lie down and sleep, Huanglian Ejiao Tang (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction) is the primary treatment. If there is diarrhea with a desire to drink water, it is due to internal heat; Baitouweng Tang (Pulsatilla Decoction) is the primary treatment. For hot diarrhea with a sensation of rectal tenesmus (Zhongzhong), Baitouweng Tang (Pulsatilla Decoction) is the primary treatment.
According to the above syndromes, whether presenting as high fever, extreme thirst, spontaneous sweating, spontaneous diarrhea, difficult urination, irritability and insomnia, stagnant heat causing jaundice, or heat-complicated diarrhea, they all belong to pathogenic Yang factors residing in the interior; thus, they are collectively categorized as Interior Heat Syndromes.
Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction)
Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 3 qian) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 qian) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian, honey-fried) Jingmi (Oryza Sativa, 4 qian). Use two cups of water, boil until the rice is cooked and the decoction is ready, yielding approximately one cup. Take warm. Commentary: The Baihu syndrome is caused by internal stagnation of dry-heat. Therefore, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) clears Lung Metal to reduce fever, Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) moistens dryness and drains fire, while Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Jingmi (Oryza Sativa) tonify the Middle Jiao, transform Qi, generate fluids, and relieve thirst.

Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 qian) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 2 qian) Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 3 pieces). Decoct in water and take. Commentary: In the combination of Taiyang and Shaoyang diseases, the Qi of the Shaoyang channel stagnates and attacks the Spleen/Stomach (Wu Earth). Therefore, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) are used to tonify the Spleen channel, while Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) drain Ministerial Fire. This prevents the loss of Spleen Yin due to diarrhea, which could lead to dryness of Earth and transmission to the Yangming channel.
Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction)
Zhuling (Polypori Sclerotium, 1 qian) Fuling (Poria, 1 qian) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 1 qian) Huashi (Talcum, 1 qian) Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 1 qian). Use two cups of water, decoct to one cup, strain, add Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) and melt it. Take warm. Commentary: Dampness in Earth and stagnation of Wood generate lower-heat. Therefore, Zhuling (Polypori Sclerotium), Fuling (Poria), Huashi (Talcum), and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) are used to promote urination and drain dampness, while Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) nourishes Liver Wood and clears wind-heat.
Yinchen Hao Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae Decoction)
Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, 6 qian) Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, 5 pieces) Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 2 qian). Use three cups of water, first decoct Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) until half a cup remains, then add other herbs, decoct to 0.8 cup. Take warm, three times a day. Cure when urine flows freely. Commentary: Jaundice is caused by internal stagnation of damp-heat. Therefore, Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) promotes urination to remove dampness, while Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) drain heat and purge stagnant heat.
Zhizi Bopi Tang (Gardeniae and Phellodendron Bark Decoction)
Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, 6-7 pieces) Huangbapi (Phellodendri Cortex, 2 qian) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take. Commentary: Body jaundice with fever is originally caused by stagnant heat. Therefore, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) is used to cultivate Earth and tonify the Middle, while Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Huangbapi (Phellodendri Cortex) drain dampness and clear stagnant heat.
Huanglian Ejiao Tang (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction)
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 2 qian) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 0.5 qian) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 qian) Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 1.5 qian) Jizihuang (Galli Ovum Vitellus, 1 piece).
