[From *Da*] For women who have had multiple births but lack milk, the cause is the depletion of body fluids (Jin Ye). It is necessary to administer tonifying and nourishing medicines to stimulate lactation. If there is some milk but the volume is insufficient, it is necessary to administer medicines that unblock the meridians to promote flow, while still using soup as a medicinal guide. Generally speaking, a woman's milk originates from the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and connects with the Stomach Meridian. Broadly speaking, if a woman has pre-existing diseases in the Chong and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), her milk will be scanty and yellowish in color, and the child she bears will be frail and prone to illness.
[Wu] Lactation obstruction can occur due to either an excess condition where vigorous Qi and Blood become stagnant and blocked, or a deficiency condition where weak and sluggish Qi and Blood fail to flow. Deficiency patterns should be treated by tonification, while excess patterns should be treated by dispersing and unblocking. For dispersing and unblocking, use herbs such as Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba), and Tugua (Trichosanthis Radix); for tonification, use substances such as Zhongru Fen (Gypsum Fibrosum Powder), pig trotters, and crucian carp.
[From *Da*] Treatment for complete absence of milk.
Tugua (Radix Trichosanthis) and Loulu (Herba Euphorbiae Humifusae) (each 3 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (2 liang), Tongcao (Medulla Tetrapanacis) (4 liang).
Add eight sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng, and divide into three warm doses.
[From *Ji*] To induce lactation. Wash Gualouzi (Semen Trichosanthis), drain well, stir-fry until fragrant and cooked, bake on a tile until white, grind into powder, mix with wine, and take one bi dose. Lie down for a short time afterward.
[From *Chan Shu*] To induce lactation. Grind Tugua (Radix Trichosanthis) into powder, take one qian with wine, three times daily.
[From *Ben*] To induce lactation. Take three Jing Sanleng (Rhizoma Sparganii), decoct in two bowls of water to obtain one bowl. Use this liquid to wash the breasts. Continue until milk flows; this is extremely effective.
[Dan] For women with obstructed lactation. Take one he of Letuzi (Semen Lactucae Sativae) and one he of Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa Semen), grind finely, add one bowl of water, mix well, add one zi of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) powder, decoct, and drink frequently while warm. This is miraculous.
[Yun] Li Xiao Fang (Instant Effect Formula) to induce lactation.
Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa Semen) and Letuzi (Semen Lactucae Sativae) (each half he, washed), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (half liang, raw).
Decoct to obtain one sheng of juice, grind the remaining medicine finely, strain, and divide into three doses. Lactation will immediately commence.
Another prescription: Pig trotter (one), Tongcao (Medulla Tetrapanacis) (4 liang).
Boil in ten dou of water to make a soup and eat it.
[Luo] Yong Quan San (Surging Spring Powder) treats reduced milk flow in women due to Qi stagnation.
Qumai Sui (Spica Dianthi), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis) (core removed), Longgu (Os Draconis et Mammutis), Shanzhijia (Squama Manis) (pounded and fried until yellow), Wangbuliuxing (Semen Vaccariae).
Grind into fine powder. Take one qian per dose, mixed with hot wine. Afterwards, consume a small amount of pig trotter soup. Additionally, comb each breast thirty to twenty times with a wooden comb. Take three times daily, following the aforementioned methods.
Another prescription for scanty milk.
Gualougen (Radix Trichosanthis) and Bohe Qiangshen (Herba Menthae Haplocalycis Dried Stem) (equal parts).
Grind into coarse powder. First, drink one bowl of Yangti juice (juice from sheep's hoof/leg), then take the medicine, and finally consume a small amount of scallion-shred mutton soup. This will yield results.
[From *Da*] There was a case where a woman’s lactation ducts were obstructed for seventeen days, and all medicines failed. Someone gave her one dou of red beans (Vigna angularis). She began to cook and eat them as porridge regularly. That very night, her lactation ducts became patent.
