[Dan] For trismus accompanied by convulsions and nasal congestion, use *Arisaema cum Bile* (Yujin) and *Veratrum nigrum* (Lilu) ground into powder. Mix with water and insufflate into the nose.
To treat trismus with sudden inability to speak. Pound *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata* (Fuzi) into powder. Place in a tube and insufflate into the throat for immediate relief. (*Qianjin Yifang* states: "insufflating into the throat" may actually mean "insufflating into the nose".)
[Classic of Internal Medicine] To treat acute wind-stroke with closed eyes and locked jaw, where there is no way to administer medicine orally. Use this powder; dip the middle finger into the powder and rub it on the left and right molars for twenty or thirty repetitions. The mouth will open naturally, allowing medication to be administered. This is named Kaiguan San (Opening the Gate Powder).
*Rhizoma Arisaematis* (Tiannanxing) pounded into powder, and *Borneolum Syntheticum* (Bailongnao), both in equal parts, finely ground. Prepared at noon on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. A dose of only one zi to half a qian is effective; if phlegm-saliva is excessive, vomiting will occur.
[Short and Effective Universal Formulas] To treat wind-stroke with trismus, surging phlegm-saliva causing obstruction, and expectoration formula. Use one stick of *Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis* (Zaojiao), remove the skin, coat with lard, roast until yellow, and grind into powder. Take one qian bi each time, taken with warm wine at any time. If qi is excess and pulse is vigorous, take two qian bi. If the teeth cannot be opened, rub the teeth with a white plum; once the mouth opens, administer the medicine. Vomiting out the wind-phlegm leads to recovery.
[Bencao Yanji] To treat wind-stroke with loss of consciousness and tight jaw. Use one liang of *Veratrum nigrum* (Lilu), remove the rhizome base, wash with strong decoction of *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (Fangfeng) soup, dry by baking, cut, and stir-fry until light brownish-yellow. Pound into powder. Take half a qian with warm water. Effectiveness is indicated by vomiting phlegm-saliva. If after walking about three li there is no vomiting, take another dose.
