[Zhang Hezi] A fifteen-year-old girl had wet tinea between her thighs, extending three to four cun downwards to the knees. Itching was unbearable, scratching provided no relief, nor did hot water or fire. After itching subsided, yellow-red fluid flowed, and pain was intolerable. Moxibustion, fumigation, washing, and medicines like Liuhuang (Sulfur), Ru Cao (Agarwood?), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), and Yangti Gen (Rumex Root) were all ineffective. Her parents sought treatment from Dairen (Zhang Hezi's courtesy name).
Dairen said: "If you follow my words, you will be cured." The parents agreed. He sharpened needles, and when she felt itching, pricked over a hundred points on the tinea until blood drained completely, then washed with boiled salt water. Repeated four times, the major illness was eliminated. This method was not fully revealed to later generations, fearing misuse by those relying solely on topical tinea medicines. It emphasizes that dampness invading the blood cannot fail to require Bian Shi (stone needle) bloodletting therapy.
