[Zhu Danxi] To treat *Shiyong* (Stone Abscess, an abscess hard as stone), if left untreated, it leads to severe consequences. For swelling, crush the root of *Phytolaccae Radix* (Shanglu, 商陆) and rub it on the affected area; replace it when dry, until the area becomes soft. (Quoted from Zhang Wenzhong.) If the abscess has not yet ulcerated, drip the white juice of *Lactuca sativa* (Kuju, 苦苣菜) onto the lesion, and it will ulcerate immediately. The *Bencao* records: It can also extract the root of Ding sores (Dingchuang, 疔疮).
*[Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang]* Muxiang San (Costus Root Powder), used for sores that are difficult to dissipate, unable to suppurate, and accompanied by unceasing pain. Take three qian mixed with wine. (This formula is found in the chapter on "Dou Yong".)
[Zhu Danxi] For sudden onset of swelling with severe pain, take a large *Mylabris* root (Yanqing Gen, 芫青根), crush it, mix with vinegar to form a paste, boil for three turns, apply on cloth, and wrap around the affected area. (Quoted from Ge Shi's prescription.) For wind-toxin swelling lasting three years, decoct scallion whites in concentrated vinegar, wrap in cloth, and apply hot compresses to the swollen area. (Quoted from *Waitai Miyao*.) To treat all kinds of heat-toxin swellings, crush *Phytolaccae Radix* (Shanglu, 商陆), mix with a little salt, apply to the affected area, and change twice daily. (Quoted from *Sun Taizhen Shiji*.) To treat all kinds of toxic swellings where pain is unbearable, crush *Ricini Fructus* (Bimaren, 蓖麻仁) and apply to the affected area; recovery occurs immediately. (Quoted from *Zhouhou Fang*.) To treat swelling: Take one sheng of *Tribuli Fructus* (Jilizi, 蒺藜子), stir-fry until yellow, crush finely, mix with sesame oil to form a paste, stir-fry again until scorched, spread on old cloth according to the size of the swelling, and apply to the affected area. Do not cover the top of the head. (Quoted from *Waitai Miyao*.) To treat toxic swelling caused by thorns or fox bites. Apply the white juice of *Taraxaci Herba* (Gongyinggen, 蒲公英草根) to the affected area; frequent application leads to quick recovery. On the night of July 15th, my left middle finger back was scratched by a tree in the courtyard, causing unbearable pain. Ten days later, the wound deepened, became elevated and large, and the pain was nearly fatal. Using this method brought relief. (Quoted from Sun Fang.)
*[Huangdi Neijing]* For heat swelling, grind *Thomsoniae Radix* (Shandougen, 山豆根) with water to obtain a thick juice, apply to the affected area, and reapply when dry.
*[Yanyi]* In the twelfth lunar month, fill a new clay jar with hot water, add two sheng of *Natrii Sulfas* (Piaoxiao, 朴硝), stir until dissolved, hang under the north eaves, wait for the crystals to effloresce on the outside of the jar, then collect them. Mix half a cup with human breast milk. Sweep/apply to any wind-heat toxin attacking the eyelids, or swelling and pain of the head, face, and limbs; it works miraculously.
*[Shan]* For toxic swelling or painful areas, powder *Adzuki Bean* (Chixiaodou, 赤小豆), mix with water, and apply; change frequently. Alternatively, apply *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Xiangbaizhi, 香白芷) mixed with water, which is especially effective. Another prescription: Dry *Malvae Folium* (Baifurongye, 白芙蓉叶), mix with *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Zaojiao, 皂角) into powder, mix with water, and apply.
