[Lo Tianyi] Xionghuang Xiaodu Gao (Realgar Detoxifying Ointment) treats unbearable pain from scorpion stings.
Shi Xiong Huang (Realgar), Xin Shi (Arsenolite) (each half liang), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus, 巴豆) (three qian), Bai Fan (Alumen, 白矾) (raw, one liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Melt half a liang of Huang La (Beeswax, 黄蜡), mix with the medicine evenly to form pills, sized like dates. When using, heat the pill over a lamp flame until melted, and drip onto the sting site; the pain stops immediately.
[Li Dongyuan] Yishang San (One-Upper Powder) treats pain from scorpion stings.
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 半夏) (one zi dose, use raw, grind into fine powder), Shi Xiong Huang (Realgar) (one zi dose, separately ground), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus, 巴豆) (one seed, peel, grind into paste).
Grind these three ingredients together, mix evenly, and apply to the affected area.
To treat scorpion venom, melt Bai Fan (Alumen, 白矾), and while hot, drip onto the wound; the pain ceases and the toxin is expelled.
[Guangji Fang] Treats human scorpion stings. Grind spiders to extract juice, apply externally for cure.
[Shanju Fang] Scorpion sting. Apply Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 苦参) juice to the site.
[Shiyi De Xiao Fang] Treats scorpion stings. Grind fresh Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 生姜) on the ground and apply. Another method: mix Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, 天南星) with Mi Cu (Vinegar, 米醋) and rub on the area.
[Waitai Miyao] Treats bee stings. Apply Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 薄荷) leaves for cure. Another method: for human bee or scorpion stings, chew Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 人参) and apply as a poultice.
[Shengji Zonglu] Treats human bee stings. Apply Su You (Butyrum, 酥油) for recovery.
Zhang Jian, formerly serving as a judge in Jiannan under Zhang Yanshang, was suddenly bitten on the neck by a spotted spider. After one night, two red lines appeared at the bite site, thin as chopsticks, encircling the neck from the chest to the Heart meridian. After two nights, the head and face swelled and hurt, becoming as large as several sheng bowls, and the abdomen gradually swelled, nearly leading to death. Lord Zhang deeply valued Zhang Jian, so he offered five hundred thousand cash from his own wealth and another five hundred thousand from Zhang Jian’s family wealth to recruit someone who could cure him. Suddenly, a man responded claiming he could treat it. Lord Zhang initially doubted this and wanted to verify the prescription, so he ordered the man to prepare the medicine before him. The man said, "I do not withhold prescriptions; I only care about saving lives."
He then took a porcelain bowl full of Da Lan Zhi (Indigo Naturalis Juice, 大蓝汁), threw a spider into it, and after a long time retrieved it; the spider was exhausted and unable to move. He then crushed more Indigo juice, added She Xiang (Moschus, 麝香) and Shi Xiong Huang (Realgar), mixed them, and threw another spider into the liquid, which instantly dissolved into water. Lord Zhang and the others were greatly amazed, so they had the man apply the liquid to the bite site. Within two days, the patient fully recovered. Only a small sore remained at the bite site, which healed completely after the scab fell off.
[Haishang Ji Yan Fang] Spider bites causing widespread sores. Use one stalk of Qing Cong Ye (Allii Fistulosi Folium, 青葱叶), make a hole at the small end, place an earthworm inside, pinch both ends tightly to prevent air leakage, shake until it turns into water, and apply to the bite site for cure.
[Danjia Xinfa] For spider bites, chew Jiu Bai (Allii Tuberosi Bulbus, 韭菜白) and apply as a poultice.
[Shanju Fang] Bites from spiders and various insects. Mix Ge Fen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix Starch, 葛粉) with Sheng Jiang Zhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Juice, 生姜汁) and apply.
[Jingxiao Fang] Spider bite. Mix Tu Mo (Saliva, 唾) with Shan Dou Gen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix, 山豆根) powder and apply. Dog bites, Pifu Chu (Ant-bite rash, 蚍蜉疮), and snake bites: all treated by grinding Shan Dou Gen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix, 山豆根) with water and applying. ("Pi" is pronounced 'pinzhi'. Pifu refers to ants.) Another method: for spider bites where silk-like threads appear on the body, drink one jian (approx. one sheng) of Yang Ru (Caprae Lac, 羊乳).
[Shen Kuo] Using Qin Pi (Fraxini Cortex, 秦皮) alone treats Tianshe Du (Heavenly Snake Poison). This sore resembles leprosy but is not leprosy. Tianshe refers to the yellow flower spider found in grass. When humans are stung by it and exposed to dew, this disease forms. Boil Qin Pi (Fraxini Cortex, 秦皮) in water to make one dou of decoction, drink it, and the patient recovers.
