[Bencao] Foshou San (Buddha's Hand Powder): Treats women in the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy who have suffered trauma to the fetus due to external impact, or where the fetus has died in the womb, with lochia discharge, unceasing pain, and trismus (lockjaw).
Administer this medicine for exploration; if the fetus is undamaged, the pain will cease, and both mother and child will be safe. If the fetus is damaged, it will be expelled immediately. It also treats blood rushing up to the heart and chest, causing abdominal fullness and oppression, with effects as rapid as hot water melting snow. This medicine is divinely effective for inducing labor.
(The formula is seen in the Vertigo chapter. It consists of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) ground into powder in equal parts, administered via gavage for those with trismus.)
[Daren] Treats a pregnant woman who suddenly falls, or whose movements involve lifting heavy objects causing injury, resulting in fetal discomfort and fetal death. Administer Chuanxiong powder with wine, one fangcun bi (square-inch spoonful) per dose; after a short while, take two or three doses to expel the dead fetus.
Treats pregnancy complicated by falling from a height, with vaginal bleeding and mental restlessness/oppression.
Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Yimu Cao (Leonuri Herba) (each 1 liang); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (each 0.5 liang).
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1 deng (unit of volume) of water and 4 slices of ginger, decoct until reduced to 60%, remove dregs, and take at any time.
(Danxi) Treats women who have injured their fetus due to sprains or twists, presenting with abdominal pain and metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding).
Guiwei (Cauda Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 3 qian); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 qian, honey-fried).
Divide into four packets. Add 3 deng of water, decoct to obtain 1 deng, then add Suosha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) powder (1.5 qian) and Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces) (1 qian).
[Daren] Treats women who have taken herbal medicines leading to miscarriage and abdominal pain. Use a small amount of Baibian Dou (Dolichoris Semen), remove the skin, grind into powder, and administer with rice water, one fangcun bi per dose. Alternatively, decoct strongly.
Ejiao San (Donkey-Hide Gelatin Powder): Treats pregnancy where fetal movement is restless due to stumbling/falling or poisoning, accompanied by lower back pain, abdominal fullness, vaginal bleeding, fetal qi rushing up to the heart/chest, and shortness of breath.
Shudi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) (2 liang); Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Aiyè (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (each 1 liang). Some formulas include Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Take 0.5 liang per dose, add 3 slices of ginger and 1 jujube, decoct together, take warm, at any time.
Treats accidental injury during pregnancy causing restless fetal movement and unbearable pain. Use Suosha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) in any quantity, stir-fry with peel until black. In some methods, use the kernel, stir-fry slightly in an iron pestle, grind into fine powder. Mix with hot wine and take 2 qian. For those who do not drink alcohol, mix with rice water. When heat is felt in the abdomen, the fetus is considered stabilized; this formula is extremely effective.
Duoming Wan (Life-Rescuing Pill): Treats women with post-abortal hemorrhage, fetal death in the womb, aversion to cold, cyanosis/whiteness of fingers/lips/nails, sallow-dark complexion, fetal qi rushing up to the heart/chest leading to syncope and near-death sensation, spontaneous cold sweat, ingestion of foul substances, or accidental ingestion of herbal medicines damaging fetal qi and causing continuous bleeding. If the fetus is not yet damaged, administration can stabilize it; if already dead, administration can expel it; if the fetus has decomposed in the womb causing critical danger, it can be extracted immediately. This formula was indeed transmitted by an extraordinary person and is exceedingly profound. (This is essentially Zhang Zhongjing's Fuling Guizhi Wan [Poria and Cinnamon Twig Pill], differing only in being chewed with light vinegar water. The formula consists of Mudan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Fuling (Poria), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Taoren (Persicae Semen), and Chi Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) in equal parts; Zhu Danxi also praised its efficacy.)
