[Dan] If donkey saliva or horse sweat enters a wound, the swelling will gradually worsen; it must be treated urgently. If delayed, the toxin will penetrate deeply and become incurable. Apply powder of raw Aconitum carmichaelii (Sheng Wutou) to the wound surface. After a while, yellow fluid will discharge, and the condition will stabilize immediately.
[Worldly Prescriptions] For treating donkey saliva or horse sweat entering wounds: Use Polygala tenuifolia (Yuanzhi), remove the heart, grind into powder, mix with wine, and apply. Another prescription: Dry winter melon peel (Donggua) and green tangerine peel (Qingpi) in the shade, grind into powder, and apply to the sore. Another method: When horse sweat penetrates the flesh and the toxic qi spreads like a red line, chew fresh fruit of Mume (Wumei) thoroughly and apply to the sore. Yet another prescription: Pound Mume (Wumei) including the seed until mushy, mix with good vinegar to form a paste. First, puncture the wound with a needle to drain all purple-red blood, wipe dry, apply the paste, and bind firmly with cloth. Wang Shi treats injuries from donkey saliva or horse sweat toxin by using refined Alum (Baifan) and calcined Cinnabar (Huandan) fried until purple, mixed in equal parts, wrapped, and applied to the affected area.
[Meng] Portulaca oleracea (Machixian) also primarily treats horse-toxic sores. Decoct in water, have the patient drink one sheng, and apply the remaining half to the sore. For damp tinea and white alopecia, apply Portulaca paste mixed with ash for effective results.
[Dan] Prescription for treating swine sores: Cnidium monnieri (Shechuangzi), Scutellaria barbata (Jiancao), Alum (Baifan), Sophora flavescens (Kushen), Croton seed powder (Badu), added with ram feces and tung oil, mixed and applied. (From Tao's work)
[Yuan] Two prescriptions for treating "horse rat" sores. (The nature of this sore is not detailed.)
First prescription: Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi, 1.5 liang), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao, 7 qian), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin, stir-fried with wine, 0.5 liang), Coptis chinensis (Huanglian, raw use, 1 liang), Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai, soaked in wine, 7 qian), Forsythia suspensa (Lianqiao, 7 qian), Atractylodes lancea (Cangzhu), Angelica sinensis root tip (Danggui Shao), Cimicifuga foetida (Shengma, each 1 liang), Ephedra sinica root (Mahuang Gen, 8 qian), Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fangfeng, 2 qian), Alisma orientale (Zexie, 7 qian), Notopterygium incisum (Qianghuo), Ligusticum jeholense (Ben, each 3 qian).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Add two large bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains, cool, and administer orally. It is highly effective. "Horse rat" appears in the regions governed by the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian and Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian; symptoms include extreme thirst and copious, turbid urine resembling mud.
Second prescription: Cimicifuga foetida (Shengma, 2.5 qian), Pueraria lobata (Gegen, 1 qian), Forsythia suspensa (Lianqiao, 2 qian), Angelica sinensis body (Danggui Shen, 1 qian), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gancao, honey-fried, 1 qian), Atractylodes lancea (Cangzhu, 1.5 qian), Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai, 2.5 qian), Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin, 1 qian), Carthamus tinctorius (Honghua, a small amount), Coptis chinensis (Huanglian, 5 fen), Prunus armeniaca seed (Xingren, 5 pieces), Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi, 2 qian), Rehmannia glutinosa (Shengdi, 1 qian), Succinum (Hupo, 3 fen), Ephedra sinica (Mahuang, add 5 fen in winter), Polyporus umbellatus (Zhuling), Bupleurum chinense (Chaihu, 1.5 qian), Poria cocos (Baifuling, 1.5 qian), Alisma orientale (Zexie).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Take 0.5 liang per dose, add two bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains, cool, and administer orally.
