Treats postpartum warm-heat disease (Wenbing) presenting as Yangming Fu-organ excess syndrome, characterized by heat in both the exterior and interior.
Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 1.5 liang) Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian) Sheng Hang Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, raw, 4 qian) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 qian) Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 2 qian).
Decoct the above five herbs to yield two bowls of liquid. Take half a bowl warm each time. If cured after one dose, discontinue subsequent doses.
Postpartum patients are generally contraindicated from using cold-natured herbs; however, when warm-heat pathogens enter the Yangming Fu organs, cold-natured formulas are necessary to resolve the condition. Consequently, physicians often find themselves at a loss. It is unknown that both Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) are explicitly recorded in *Shennong Bencao Jing* (The Divine Farmer's Materia Medica) as treatments for postpartum conditions. Therefore, for severe cases where heat enters the Yangming, Bai Hu Jia Ren Shen Yi Shan Yao Dai Geng Mi Tang (White Tiger Decoction with Ginseng, substituting Coicis Semen with Dioscoreae Rhizoma) can be used, further substituting Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) with Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix). For milder cases, this formula yields immediate results. I have saved many people using these two formulas. Clinicians should firmly trust *Shennong Bencao Jing* and not fear the cold nature of Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix). Moreover, according to *Shennong Bencao Jing*, both Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) are originally described as slightly cold, not severely cold or cooling.
Treats insufficient lactation. This formula is effective for low milk supply caused by Qi and Blood deficiency or meridian stasis.
Sheng Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, raw, 1 liang) Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 5 qian) Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 4 qian) Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 4 qian) Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama, stir-fried and crushed, 2 qian) Lu Lu Tong (Liquidambaris Fructus, large ones: 3 pieces, crushed) Wang Bu Liu Xing (Vaccariae Semen, stir-fried, 4 qian).
Use Si Gua Reng (Luffae Fructus Retinervus) as a guiding herb; if unavailable, it may be omitted. Using broth from two pig forefeet to decoct the herbs yields better results.
Treats breast lumps with swelling and pain, or early-stage Ru Yong (Breast Abscess). One dose leads to resolution. If suppuration has already occurred, this formula reduces swelling and pain, promoting rapid rupture. It also treats all types of red, swollen sores and ulcers.
When I was in Dezhou, a Mrs. Zhang suffered from Ru Yong (Breast Abscess) with severe swelling and pain. After administering this formula, she recovered in two doses. However, she still experienced slight pain occasionally. Encouraged by others, she took one or two more doses to eliminate residual pathology. Believing herself cured, she neglected follow-up. Ten days later, the swelling and pain recurred, and she sought treatment again. I stated, "This medication cannot completely resolve the mass; some pus must be discharged because the underlying pathology remains, and suppuration has now set in." Indeed, subsequent medication showed little effect. She then entered a Western hospital for treatment. Ten days later, an external opening formed, which the physician enlarged with a knife to facilitate dressing application. Another ten days passed, and internal ulceration worsened, with seven or eight additional openings appearing on the breast. The physician intended to incise them all for drainage. Fearing the procedure, the patient refused further treatment, discharged herself against medical advice, and returned home seeking my care. I observed pus and milk flowing from all openings, making external application impossible. However, internal administration of the decoction would promote rapid tissue regeneration, naturally expelling pus. I promised a cure within ten days. Thus, Nei Tuo Sheng Ji San (Internal Support Powder for Generating Flesh) was prepared as a decoction. One dose daily, decocted and taken twice, resulted in complete recovery within ten days.
[Attached Formula] My cousin's nephew, Mr. Liu XX, who studied medicine under me, once obtained a formula for treating breast lumps with swelling and pain, as well as Ru Yong (Breast Abscess). It uses Sheng Bai Fan (Alumen, raw), Ming Xiong Huang (Realgar, refined), and Song Luo Cha (Songluo Tea), each 1.5 qian. Grind into fine powder, divide into three doses. Take one dose daily, washed down with yellow wine; drinking a few more cups of good wine afterward is even better. This formula has proven effective repeatedly; it is truly a miraculous prescription. If Song Luo Cha (Songluo Tea) is unavailable, good quality tea leaves can be substituted.
