10. When the Five Movements (Wu Yun) are excessive, the element that controls it fears its prosperity and aligns with its transformation, known as "Qi Hua" (Alignment Transformation). When the Five Movements are deficient, the controlling element takes advantage of its weakness to incorporate its transformation, known as "Jian Hua" (Concomitant Transformation). If an excessive Central Movement is restrained by the Si Tian (Heavenly Qi), or if a deficient Central Movement receives assistance from the same element or a generating element, these are all considered "Zheng Hua" (Orthodox Transformation), representing years of balance and peace. Among the Six Qi, the years of Yin, Wu, Wei, You, Xu, and Hai are Zheng Hua years, where the ruling Qi is abundant; the years of Zi, Chou, Mao, Chen, Si, and Shen are Dui Hua (Counter Transformation) years, where the ruling Qi is insufficient.
[Annotation] Among the Five Movements, the "Central Movement" (Zhong Yun) governs the movement of the entire year. When the Central Movement is excessive, it becomes prosperous. The element that normally controls it (Sheng Ji Zhe) fears its strength and instead aligns with its transformation (Qi Hua). For example: In Tai Gong Earth Movement (excessive Earth), it aligns with Wood's transformation; in Tai Jiao Wood Movement (excessive Wood), it aligns with Metal's transformation; in Tai Shang Metal Movement (excessive Metal), it aligns with Fire's transformation; in Tai Zheng Fire Movement (excessive Fire), it aligns with Water's transformation; in Tai Yu Water Movement (excessive Water), it aligns with Earth's transformation. This corresponds to the classic saying: "Fearing its prosperity, it reverses to share its transformation, encroaching upon what it cannot overcome." When the Central Movement is deficient, it becomes weak. The controlling element takes advantage of its decline to incorporate its transformation (Jian Hua). For example: In Shao Gong Earth Movement (deficient Earth), Wood incorporates its transformation; in Shao Jiao Wood Movement (deficient Wood), Metal incorporates its transformation; in Shao Shang Metal Movement (deficient Metal), Fire incorporates its transformation; in Shao Zheng Fire Movement (deficient Fire), Water incorporates its transformation; in Shao Yu Water Movement (deficient Water), Earth incorporates its transformation. This corresponds to the classic saying: "Taking advantage of its weakness, it comes to share its transformation, as what cannot overcome it encroaches upon it." When the Central Movement is Wu Chen (Yang Year), Fire Movement is excessive. If Cold Water rules the Heaven (Si Tian), it is "Excess being restrained." When the Central Movement is Yi Mao (Yin Year), Metal Movement is deficient. If Dry Metal rules the Heaven, it is "Same Qi" assistance. When the Central Movement is Xin Mao (Yin Year), Water Movement is deficient, which is "Generating" assistance. All such cases represent deficiency receiving assistance, constituting Orthodox Transformation and peaceful years. "Qi" refers to the Ke Qi (Guest Qi) of the Six Qi, governing the ruling transformation of the year. For instance: Jue Yin (Wind-Wood) rules in Si and Hai years. Since Jue Yin belongs to Wood, and Wood is born in Hai, the Zheng Hua is in Hai, and the Dui Hua is in Si. Shao Yin (Minister-Fire) rules in Zi and Wu years. Since Shao Yin is Minister Fire, occupying the South Li position, the Zheng Hua is in Wu, and the Dui Hua is in Zi. Tai Yin (Damp-Earth) rules in Chou and Wei years. Since Tai Yin belongs to Earth, centered and prosperous in the Southwest Wei palace, the Zheng Hua is in Wei, and the Dui Hua is in Chou. Shao Yang (Minister-Fire) rules in Yin and Shen years. Since Shao Yang is Minister Fire, subordinate to Minister Fire, and Fire is born in Yin, the Zheng Hua is in Yin, and the Dui Hua is in Shen. Yang Ming (Dry-Metal) rules in Mao and You years. Since Yang Ming belongs to Metal, and You is the Western Metal position, the Zheng Hua is in You, and the Dui Hua is in Mao. Tai Yang (Cold-Water) rules in Chen and Xu years. Since Tai Yang is Water, and Chen/Xu belong to Earth, yet Water moves within Earth, and Xu is located in the Northwest, a region where Water qi gradually prospers, according to the Hong Fan Five Elements, Xu is attributed to Water. Thus, the Zheng Hua is in Xu, and the Dui Hua is in Chen. Therefore, Yin, Wu, Wei, You, Xu, and Hai are Zheng Hua years. Zheng Hua implies substantial timing and predominance of excess. Zi, Chou, Mao, Chen, Si, and Shen are Dui Hua years. Dui Hua implies empty timing and predominance of deficiency. (See Figures 14 and 15).
