[1] In cases of traumatic injury where bleeding occurs at the site of injury or from various orifices, this is due to blazing Liver Fire causing Heat in the Blood, leading to blood moving recklessly outside its vessels. Use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Xiaoyao Powder) to clear heat and nourish blood.
[2] If it is due to deficiency of Middle Qi, with blood lacking attachment and moving recklessly, use Jiawei Sijunzi Tang (Modified Four Gentlemen Decoction) or Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction).
[3] Or if Yuan Qi (Primal Qi) has collapsed internally and cannot control the blood, use Dushen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction) with Pao Jiang (Prepared Ginger) to restore Yang; if there is no response, urgently add Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root).
[4] If blood accumulates internally resulting in hematemesis (vomiting blood), use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root) and Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root).
[5] Whenever trauma is aggravated by overexertion, or by anger causing abdominal distension and fullness, or by excessive consumption of cold-natured herbs:
<1> Injury to the Yang Collaterals results in hematemesis, epistaxis (nosebleed), hematochezia (blood in stool), or hematuria (blood in urine).
<2> Injury to the Yin Collaterals results in blood stasis accumulation, blood clots, and bluish-black discoloration of the muscles.
<3> All these are caused by deficiency of the Zang-Fu organs and dysfunction of the meridians and collaterals. Urgently tonifying the Spleen and Lung will lead to spontaneous recovery.
