Treats Jueyin disease (Jueyin disorder) presenting with dry retching, vomiting of clear saliva and froth, accompanied by headache.
Treats Shaoyin syndrome (Shaoyin pattern) presenting with vomiting and diarrhea, coldness of the hands and feet, and severe restlessness to the point of desperation.
Treats Yangming disease (Yangming disorder) presenting with a desire to vomit after eating.
Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) 1 sheng, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 3 liang, Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 6 liang, Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) 12 pieces (broken open). The above four ingredients,
with 7 sheng of water, decocted to obtain 2 sheng, taken warm at 7 ge per dose, three times daily.
[Collected Annotations] Luo Qianfu stated: Among Zhang Zhongjing's various methods for rescuing yang, in the Sini Tang (Four Counterflow Decoction) for Shaoyin, Ginger (Shengjiang/Zijiang) and Aconite (Fuzi) must be used; in Tongmai Sini Tang (Pulse-Reviving Four Counterflow Decoction), dried ginger (Ganjiang) is doubled, and Aconite (Fuzi) is used raw; in Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction), raw Aconite (Fuzi) is increased to two pieces. The reason for this is that either to strengthen the faint yang to allow it to reach the exterior, or to attract the floating yang to return inward, these are all cases where the True Yang of Shaoyin has lost its residence, thus making the restoration of yang an urgent priority. As for treating Jueyin, Evodia (Wuzhuyu) is substituted, and the previous herbs are removed, using only Ginseng (Renshen), Ginger (Shengjiang), and Jujube (Dazao). This is because although the Liver Wood of Jueyin represents the convergence of two yins, the true qi of one yang actually arises within it. If this generating qi becomes deficient, the turbid qi of the three yins will directly oppress the middle and upper jiao. Not only will all symptoms of the meridian itself appear, but the healthy transportation function of Yangming will also fail, leading to the exposure of True Yang in Shaoyin, resulting in vomiting and diarrhea, cold limbs, severe restlessness, and a desire to vomit after eating, with various complications arising. Evodia (Wuzhuyu) obtains the qi of the Zhen trigram from the East, is pungent, bitter, and extremely hot, capable of unblocking liver wood stagnation, entering the Jueyin channel directly, and descending the excessive yin turbid qi, causing the yin shadows to completely dissipate; therefore, it serves as the Sovereign herb. Ginseng (Renshen) embodies the balanced and harmonious qi, is sweet, warm, and greatly tonifying, capable of connecting with the primordial true qi, saving life, and raising the nearly extinct generating qi, allowing sunlight to shine universally; therefore, it serves as the Minister herb. Ginger (Shengjiang) and Jujube (Dazao) assist by harmonizing the stomach and circulating qi to the four extremities. Thus, the Zhen trigram (Liver Wood) and Kun trigram (Spleen Earth) act in harmony, wood and earth do not harm each other, the subtle function of one yang is achieved, and the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) is filled with the qi of continuous generation. Would any symptoms not recede? Generally, Zhang Zhongjing's method emphasizes consolidating Yuan Yang (Original Yang) in Shaoyin, and protecting the Generating Qi in Jueyin. Scholars should ponder deeply to understand this.
