The meridian of Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) originates at the tip of the little finger, follows the ulnar side of the hand, ascends to the wrist and emerges from the styloid process of the ulna (An Zhong), goes straight up along the lower border of the forearm bone, emerges between the two bones on the medial side of the elbow, ascends along the posterior-lateral border of the upper arm, emerges from the shoulder joint, winds around the scapula, intersects at the shoulder, enters the Supraclavicular Fossa (Que Pen), connects with the Heart, follows the pharynx, descends through the diaphragm to reach the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine; its branch arises from the Supraclavicular Fossa, follows the neck to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus of the eye, then re-enters the ear; another branch diverges from the cheek, ascends to the infraorbital region near the nose, reaches the inner canthus of the eye, and obliquely connects with the zygomatic area (see Figure 54).
The meridian of the Small Intestine of Hand-Taiyang begins at Shaose (SI1) at the tip of the little finger, follows the ulnar side of the hand emerging from the styloid process of the ulna, follows the forearm bone emerging from the medial side of the elbow, ascends along the upper arm to the posterior-lateral border, passes directly over the shoulder joint winding around the scapula, intersects at the shoulder and descends into the Supraclavicular Fossa, moves towards the axilla to connect with the Heart, follows the pharynx, descends through the diaphragm to reach the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine; one branch penetrates the neck and cheek from the Supraclavicular Fossa, reaches the outer canthus of the eye and re-enters the ear, again ascends from the front of the ear to the cheek, reaches the nose and ascends to the inner canthus of the eye, obliquely connecting with the zygomatic area as a collateral branch.
Note: [1] The meridian of Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) starts from Shaoshen (HT9) of Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) meridian on the medial side of the little finger, proceeds to Shaose (SI1) at the tip of the little finger, follows the ulnar side of the hand passing Qian Gu (SI3) and Hou Xi (SI3), ascends from Hou Xi (SI3) to Wan Gu (SI4) at the wrist, emerges from the styloid process of the ulna (An Zhong) from Wan Gu (SI4), enters Yang Gu (SI5) and Yang Lao (SI6).
[2] From Yang Lao (SI6) straight up, following the lower border of the forearm bone, is Zhi Zheng (SI7).
[3] Emerging from Zhi Zheng (SI7) between the two tendons on the medial side of the elbow is Xiao Hai (SI8).
[4] Ascending from Xiao Hai (SI8) along the posterior-lateral border of the upper arm, emerging from the shoulder joint at Jian Zhen (SI9), winding around the scapula at Nao Shu (SI10) ascending to the shoulder, is Tian Zong (SI11).
[5] From Tian Zong (SI11), following Bing Feng (SI12), Qu Yuan (SI13) and other acupoints, entering Que Pen (SI14) from Jian Zhong Shu (SI15), dispersing and moving internally, connecting with the Heart, following the pharynx, descending through the diaphragm, reaching the Stomach, belonging to the region of the Small Intestine.
[6] Its branch, from Que Pen (SI14), follows the neck entering Tian Chuang (SI16) and Tian Rong (SI17), ascends to the cheek near the zygomatic acupoint, reaches the outer canthus of the eye, then re-enters the ear, gathering at Ting Gong (SI19).
[7] Its collateral branch from the cheek ascends to the mandible, reaches the nose, arrives at the inner canthus of the eye, and intersects with the Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) meridian.
